I'm confused though, these are 18x9.5 +42, yet I've seen pictures of the Gram Light 57Xtreme's in 18x9.5 +40 and they don't seem to be as pokey. Maybe they have just been running more camber? I'd like 1.5 deg front, 2 MAX.
Its all about the size of the tire and the drop. The further you go the less poke you could end up with, given you fix the natural camber that comes with the drop(Lower control arms or bolts) Theres a wheel out there that is 18x8.5 and 9.5 +48 respectively that will give you NO poke issues whatsoever.

Here they are http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31556

I will have mine back with tires mounted in a few days, same size too 245/35R18 in a Conti Extreme Contact DW.

As for fitment, I was pretty surprised when I initially test-fitted the wheels, not so much because of the fitment calculator but because there seems to be many others running with this wheel width (both in 17 and 18") and a +35 offset.

The camber/crash bolt makes a difference and so will springs as well. The H&R's should give you more camber than the ProKit I am going with.

It's hard to judge where it will all end up, but I think I'll be okay which is why I ordered the 245s after the test-fitting.
Proof is in the pudding.
I fitted the set of 245/35R18 on 18x9 +35.

Here's some pics at stock height.
Stock suspension for now, really only test-fitted until weather gets better and springs/alignment are done next weekend.

After these photos, winter wheels were put back on the car. Hopefully the majority of the snow will finally be gone after next week.

There is a bit of poke so far.

This next pic shows clearance between the spring perch and the tire. The tire's rim saver edge is the closest to the spring, whereas the wheel rim is just below the perch.

Without a crashbolt, clearance is 12mm, with the crashbolt in place it is down to 8mm. Seems tight, but can go even more.

With springs installed, suspension settled and after an alignment, it should look pretty close to flush from the top, maybe a mini-poke.

Will post more pics once suspension is done.

Btw, wheel/tire combo weighs 1/2 pound less than stock, pretty happy about that. Here is a pic showing the difference between the OEM size winter and the new Contis. Quite surprised that it looks stretched, could've fit a 255 easily!

17/7.5 Wheel and Tire Setup, Your opinion

So I have been looking at wheels and tires like crazy wanting to purchase something that looks and performs better than stock. I definitely dont want wheels that weigh more than stock and would love to come in under 19lbs.

I ran across this little gem of a wheel weighing only 16.3lbs and only cost $173!!! Motegi Racing MR125 http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...ed&showRear=no

I wanted to go with an 18 wheel but to get down below 20 lbs I am going to spend $250+ per wheel.

As for tires I am looking for a great performer but something that can also be a daily driver and not wear out in 10,000 miles.

My current selection is Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position which run about $154 each: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....cleSearch=true

Only downside to this setup is the lack of width I guess. Its not a 8 or 9 inch width which could give up some grip.

What do you think?

If staying with 215/45-17 I'd get a Mich Pilot Super Sport - that will be fine on your rim, grip WAY more and still be light. It's wider than a normal 215.

Only reason to go 8 or 9 inches is if you are thinking about a 235 or 245 or bigger tire. More grip for racing but less mpg, heavier steering, etc for normal driving. 225 series on a 17 doesn't really fit our cars IMO.

215 or 225 in stickier summer tires is more than enough for street driving. A 7.5" wide wheel is fine.

I can't say I'm a fan of that wheel, but if you like them, that's fine. For around that price (a tad more) I'd be running Kosei K4Rs, personally.

Can't say I like your tire choice, though. Michelin PSS are basically the same price and are a much better tire.

tires fitment

OK! I am not lazy, I did search for an answer in this forum but non found!!
So here is my questions:

I want to keep the stock rim of my brz but would like improve the the thickness of the tires hopefully to get a smoother ride and less "lift" look on the car

if I change my tires to 215/55/17? will it serve the purpose? Will I run into any problem??

Thoughts and advices are appreciate!!

I'm running 215/50-17 as my winter setup - gives me the extra inch of ground clearance. But you notice when driving that the wheels are bigger - it's basically making every gear higher. No way in hell I'd go 55. Odo/Speedo is off by a few %.

One thing I did notice is that the slush/ice does get caught between the tire and the fender. Not a ton of room there. I will probably go back to stock size next set.

The sidewall on the 215/55 will be almost an inch taller (.9 inches) than the stock 215/45/17. You will have less wheel gap and your car will sit off the ground an inch more.

You could try going with a closer-to-stock size tire, but one that's less performance oriented so it has softer sidewalls.

A 215/50 is about an inch taller in diameter than stock, but it'll only give you an extra 1/2 inch of ground clearance.

Thanks for the opinion. I checked out the Kosei K4Rs and they look great plus they are even a little lighter!

As for the tires your right I will switch over to the Michelin.

Thanks!
