The ZN6 at 1400+kgs is far too heavy for a bike transmission to handle which leaves you with two choices:

A: A Hollinger style sequential box. Big $$$ there.

B: Fab up a custom bellhousing to mate the H1V8 to the stockZN6 Aisin tranny. Better have some mad CAD skills and be prepared to completely change/build up the tranny internals and possibly swap put most of the remaining drivetrain gearing as well too. Don;t take my word for it - have a read through the Miatabusa build on MotoIQ for some good info on the joys of putting a bike-derived motor into a conventional road car.

i think option B would be best and if i'm not mistaken the builder of the engines, Hartley enterprises will build you an adapter for your stock transmission. at least that what i got off the website before they sold their engine technology.

This discussion is so full of FAIL its making my head hurt.

Bottom line is you would be WELL above $80,000 to do this swap after parts and labor. If you are crazy enough to spend that kind of money on swapping in this type of motor into your FR-S when there are better, cheaper alternatives, there is ZERO chance you will listen to any form of reason.

When you get finished installing this motor, send me a PM. I have a pink unicorn that farts pixie dust I want to sell you.

Assuming they did, you still need to figure out how to deal with an input shaft that's spinning at 7500rpms before the engine is even in the meat of its powerband, let alone at its' peak.

Hence, much like the Miatabusa guys found out, you'd probably need to do some sort of gear reduction magic *before* the bellhousing.

Maybe.

this discussion is just toying around with the idea, ignoring the cost it would be an epic build. and would produce a perfect amount of power while reducing the weight of the car by ~100lbs its an interesting concept. Just way too expensive to be practical in anyway.

that is a very good point.

i guess we would have to test the tranny to see if it could handle the RPMs (this engine revs to 10k) , i think we would be somewhat alright considering that my old s2k (AP1) when finished revved out to 9500. i mean skylines and supras on stock trannys can push 10k rpm if built right.

I've followed this engine for a while. I wish someone would mass produce it. There are so many applications for it.

The atom uses a Sadev sequential (another $20k) though it is the front wheel drive model. If you spent that much for an engine you have to mate it to a sequential box

how about go AWD with a quaife?

If you have the money then i say go for it. With some other supporting mods it would make for one HELL of a fun car. Cusco do a close ratio kit for the g/box and a 5.1 FD. Then there is the sound... ITB, flat plane crank and 10,000rpm...

I say take that engine, and that transmission, and mount them behind the seats, make a mid-engined monster out of it. Monster MR2

Check the website and see that sexy torque curve... even though peak is at 7500rpm, it is a very flat torque curve, with a flat torque curve of 200 ft-lbs from approximately 2750rpm...:

... and its a flat plane V8... sounds awesome

This is about as realistic as an S85 swap. Except 10x more expensive.

I'd imagine with the higher gearing driveability would suffer, and sure it's a much lighter motor, but that's with nothing on it. Add all the accessories (alternator, AC compressor, etc) and I think your weight gap will narrow quite a bit. Then think about maintenance on a Hyabusa engine - valve adjustments etc. Engine life overall will probably be 1/3 of a properly maintained FA20.

A fun idea for a budget-unlimited show car that's trying to be different, but for real-life driving probably the least practical option.

An LS swap would be much more practical, which I think has been said already.
