This discussion is so full of FAIL its making my head hurt.
Bottom line is you would be WELL above $80,000 to do this swap after parts and labor. If you are crazy enough to spend that kind of money on swapping in this type of motor into your FR-S when there are better, cheaper alternatives, there is ZERO chance you will listen to any form of reason. When you get finished installing this motor, send me a PM. I have a pink unicorn that farts pixie dust I want to sell you. Scott

Hence, much like the Miatabusa guys found out, you'd probably need to do some sort of gear reduction magic *before* the bellhousing. Maybe.

i guess we would have to test the tranny to see if it could handle the RPMs (this engine revs to 10k) , i think we would be somewhat alright considering that my old s2k (AP1) when finished revved out to 9500. i mean skylines and supras on stock trannys can push 10k rpm if built right. |

I've followed this engine for a while. I wish someone would mass produce it. There are so many applications for it.

If you have the money then i say go for it. With some other supporting mods it would make for one HELL of a fun car. Cusco do a close ratio kit for the g/box and a 5.1 FD. Then there is the sound... ITB, flat plane crank and 10,000rpm...

I say take that engine, and that transmission, and mount them behind the seats, make a mid-engined monster out of it. Monster MR2

This is about as realistic as an S85 swap. Except 10x more expensive.

I'd imagine with the higher gearing driveability would suffer, and sure it's a much lighter motor, but that's with nothing on it. Add all the accessories (alternator, AC compressor, etc) and I think your weight gap will narrow quite a bit. Then think about maintenance on a Hyabusa engine - valve adjustments etc. Engine life overall will probably be 1/3 of a properly maintained FA20.
A fun idea for a budget-unlimited show car that's trying to be different, but for real-life driving probably the least practical option. |
