ok so ive been playing with this idea 2.8L v8 swap?
![]() SPECIFICATIONS H1V8: 75° odd fire V8 2.8 LITER, 170 cu. in. displacement (3.0 liter optional) 84mm Bore X 63mm Stroke (67 stroke optional) 4 cams, 32 valves via internal silent chain 530mm wide x 485mm long x 530mm high 400HP @ 10,000 rpm with stock street cams (higher spec. is available) 245 ft-lbs torque @ 7500 rpm 200 lbs engine weight Billet nitrided steel 180° crank 4340 H-beam con-rods with ARP bolts Billet 6061-T6 aluminum crankcase Dry sump 0il system with 4 stage pump 7.25" or 5.5" Twin disc clutch DTA S80 full sequential ECU Unique cylinder offset and cam drive (source: http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1562069.htm) I have been thinking about this swap, the engine is about the same size as the fa20 but has 200-250 more bhp and a 10,000 rpm redline and only weighs 200 lbs stock when i get around to buying a used/crashed frs/brz i would be doing the swap and stripping the car for track duty and replacing the stock final drive with a 5:1 raito any thoughts? also i was wondering(yes i did a search and maybe i didnt use the right key words) but what is the dry weight of the FA20?

Pretty aggressive. It's a great platform, keep us posted!
Edit: do you have one of these engines in your possession or experience with them? Are they legit / price? Last edited by DSTL; 09-22-2012 at 07:52 AM. |

Are you an existing customer?
"As of March 2012, the H1 and H2 engine technology has been sold. The new owner will further develop the technology for race applications and plans to offer it to other markets later this year. Hartley Enterprises retains the rights to build these engines in limited numbers for select existing customers and special projects in the US."

still deciding if i want to go auto or manual with this engine aswell i think you can get a brand new H1 for 30k or something like that, but you pretty much just check valve tolerances and change the oil and thats all you do to maintain them... EDIT: they also have a 4.0L v10 with 600hp under development, that will weigh as much as a standard 2.4L car engine, forgot the source, i found some info on it when i was researching the engine....

That would be awesome - 400 bhp NA in a BRZ/FRS. Too pricey for me, but if you are building an all out race/performance car that seems like it would be a very potent package with a little lightening of our platform and that engine.

Cool engine but I don't know if I'd ever put one in a FR-S/BRZ. I'd put it in a Super 7 or some other tube frame kit car.

^This. It's a neat idea but that engine would be a complete waste in something as heavy as the BRZ/ FRS. You need something below 2,000 lbs for an engine like that.

Yeah peak torque at 7500rpm is a huge turn off for me. I think it would be cool to strip down a scion iq and put that motor on the back though.

Not cheap. You'd be better off with an LSx.
