No, it just made sense to me. The reason behind the waiting 12hrs part was for it to get rubbery and compress under the final torquing.

Just wondering if making torque adjustments at 12+ hrs. will break the seal. You seem to be saying it gets "rubbery," rather than setting up firm/hard . . . ?

My self-fix was fine for a few weeks but I swear I'm starting to smell oil again.

January '13 production, 800+ miles, so far no sign of oil at all on the plate or the metal beneath it.

My chirp came quick though.

Update: After opening a case with SoA Customer/Dealer Services Department and taking my car in for the 3rd time since finding oil on that plate they are finally owning up to the fact that there is a leak and they need to do something about it. It sounds like a new plate has been ordered (they called what they ordered a "leak plate kit"). I'm getting it fixed next Monday and will report back on if everything has been repaired.

Noticed this on my car yesterday, oil level still perfectly full, will probably wait until the 7.5k service to have it addressed

Thanks.

Just performed this fix today using Permatech's The Right Stuff. After thoroughly cleaning off any residue, I ended up applying the goop on the plate side (following the imprint left by the old seal) - trying to use the applicator gun in that tight space to put it directly on the head side was too much of a pain in the ass, so I just spooged it on the plate, about a quarter of an inch ring, then plopped it back on and torqued it at 12 ft lbs. We'll see how well it holds.
