TD Insurance - don't tellem...

Just got a surprise...

TD Insurance was by far the cheapest I was quoted for the BRZ. So today I decided I would arrange for insurance because I pick the car up in less than 2 weeks.

They refused me coverage because of the 18 in wheels I am having installed. Their arguement was because the car is not available with 18" wheels in North America at this time.

Just a headsup for anyone who maybe considering TD. (nvm I am in my mid 40's and they had the opportunity to insure both my cars... hah which both have oversized wheels)

I usually take 10-20 all round pictures of my car stock and I just re-send them those year after year. But I have a amazing insurance guy that may do even better if your interested please pm me. TD murdered me on insurance.

I'd be curious what he can do Raphy (I'll send a PM)

For 2 cars TD Insurance was the cheapest at around 2800, everyone else was 3300+ even my current insurer which maybe my only real other option.

I mentioned my TRD exhaust option to my TD guy and he told me I was lucky that he knew TRD was a manufacturer option on the car, and that others probably would've dinged me on insurance not knowing what it was (just assuming it was aftermarket).

I wonder if they would ding me on my lighting mods, hardwired dash cam, signal flasher, or shift knob.

I noticed with any insurance company I've dealt with...

If the broker/agent is educated on the product they're selling, they will let you know what is allowed and what is not allowed in terms of modifications.

Those brokers/agents who don't, will say absolutely no modifications of any kind to cover their butts.

Why would you ever tell them you have a modified car?

That's like tell them you track your car. lol.

Because if you don't and you're involved in an accident, the insurance company can deny you coverage.

When did changing wheels become "modifying" a car? I'm, guessing this is an Ontario thing because we don't have this nonsense in Quebec. Only real modifications need to be declared, things like engine swaps and whatnot. The only reason one would declare "mods" such as wheels, audio, exhaust and whatever other "bolt-on" would be so they are covered in case of theft.

Oh, and one could argue the the car COULD come with 18" TRD wheels.

Insurance makes me laugh....

Corrected...

Not only that, but they will most likely drop you for non-disclosure which leaves you with no liability coverage either, so you could be open to being sued with no insurance company backing you. Even if you don't get sued, if you get dropped for non-disclosure you'll be basically uninsurable afterwards.

TD only asked me if I have modified the car for speed yes / no and the total value of the car including all modifications.

TD quoted me 1000$ / yr for full coverage as a secondary vehicle to my Jetta and it'll be 1600 / yr with full coverage once I sell the Jetta and put the FR-S as full time.

Are you serious? It's 100% their business since they're covering the car... If you don't tell them about modifications they can, and will, deny you coverage in a claim.
