I check this website a lot when comparing cars. It to me offers a better estimate of a cars overall performance. It lists the S2000 along with almost all of the cars that a car guy would consider. I feel that the FRS/FT86/BRZ will probably fall into the same area as the as the S2000. I am pretty sure most of the Internet surfing car guys are already familiar with this website. But, for new guys ENJOY!

For many reasons the car cannot have more than 200 PS. But if to talk about racing cars, it can change, I really hope the race derivates will have about 250 PS. For example the BMW 320si WWTC had more than 270 PS from its NA 2.0l I4. Now the 320si has more than 300 PS from its FI 1.6l I4.

I have to admit that I, like many others, am concerned with the "lacking power" that will be offered in the FR-S, FT-86, BRZ. But I KNOW I KNOW.. this is going to be a driver's car. It's supposed to make you have an unbelievable magical driving experience and if I want hp I should go buy a Mustang. I've heard it a million times.
That's cool and all, but it really better be that fun. I respect S2000s, RX-8s, and Miatas for what they were designed to do, and I'm sure the FT-86 will fall into similar performance categories as these cars. I have recently been kicking around picking up a used S2000 if the FR-S/BRZ doesn't look like it will be the car for me. However, I love the fact that the FR-S/BRZ will have 4 seats. That in itself sets it apart from the S2000. One of the main things that will win me over from just going with a used S2000 is mpg. I know us car nuts aren't supposed to care too much about that. But with most of us wanting the FR-S for daily driving and practicability, I believe that it is a worthy factor to consider. It's a simple fact that the S2000 gets pretty bad mpg. 18 city and 25 hwy. I know the S2000 is a sporty fun little car, but that isn't that great at all, almost in RX-8 mpg territory. If the FT-86/FR-S/BRZ is able to perform fairly closely to the S2000, AND gets much better mpg, I think I'll go with the Toyota/Subaru. |

Well said sir. I sold my 91 MR2 Turbo about a year ago and I LOVED it. I too got around 24-25mpg while having some fun - It had several upgrades as well. I Have a '94 TT (APU) Supra now and it simply doesn't fit me. It's a big bulky car that's fun on the highway, but that's about it, and even that is getting old. I'm ready for a change. I want something that I can feel connected to and have fun with in a safe way. And I'd love to get into autox! |

Unless you dump the clutch, bike initial acceleration > manual transmission car. I'm not exactly healthy and I could out accelerate any car on the street from a dead stop with a road bike in relatively high gear. Of course that lead gets eaten up in about half a second but that's besides the point. If you have auto and you mash the gas then yea you beat the bike, but no one wants to embarass themselves by making the tires chirp and look like an ass.

![]() On second thought, the FT-S may not be too bad compared to the S2000 for acceleration in daily driving. According to data in press releases, it will have slightly more torque than an S2000, and its curb weight is noticeably less too. |
