So I've been running the turbo kit for about 6000 miles now. Recently we stepped up the pace and have been testing and tuning at 8psi. This has brought power up to the 265-275whp range with 225-230ft/lbs of torque on 92 octane pump gas. It's a lot of fun. But a bit too much fun for the clutch, which is starting to slip in 6th gear on the freeway.
The car hasn't been babied - much - as all the drift practice videos can testify. I've also been doing a lot of dyno runs and other testing in various situations, so it's not exactly a surprise. But if you were interested in knowing where the limits of the clutch are, it's right about that 8~8.5psi point. It's not stopping us, just will be taking it easy till the new clutch goes in. |

Yes, it's been on the stock clutch for the last 6000 miles of turbo testing. On our stage 1, 5psi setup the stock clutch isn't an issue. It's only after pumping up the volume and running to 8psi (and past that...) that the issue comes up. It's quite wet here in the Pacific Northwest, so it's been rare to have dry pavement to test on - literally - over the last few months. So it would wheelspin (in every gear) before the clutch would give way. Today was a rare, dry day, and the power was going down good.

Are you willing to share an approximate wait time at present? Just a month if someone was to oreder one today?

Keep in mind, I'm R&D for the kit. I can't give people advice on when to replace a clutch unless I slowly ramp up the boost and test it and find out exactly where it started spinning. Same for a lot of other components, like engine mounts that are fine at 5~6psi, but have too much movement at 7+ psi.

If ordered today, literally, probably 1st to 2nd week of April. We've moved a lot of staff over from other projects onto the BRZ and FR-S turbo kits, so production is ramping up to catch up to the current pre-orders and beyond.

While supporting mods are the least fun to spend money on, it's almost never a good idea to skimp on them as the results of one or more of them failing will cost more to fix on the backend than if you'd just done it right to begin with. Plus, peace of mind is a heckuva thing.

We picked 5psi for stage 1 not because of any limitations of the kit, but because of the limitations of the rest of the car. 5psi on Stage 1 with the stock exhaust, stock clutch, stock injectors is doable because it still stays within their general operating parameters. Stage 2 doesn't require any major upgrades to the turbo kit itself, it's just easing people in to the supporting hardware requirements.
And for something new, video of the day (I was working on getting the right gopro settings for in-car). [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGfx7sirSvY"]AVO Turbocharged FR-S - short acceleration run. - YouTube[/ame] |

And I never said that they required those pieces. It's just a fact of modifying. You change one component and you must then change another...eventually. The car is a system, an organism if you will, so homeostasis has to be maintained.
