i find this difficult to comprehend! makes one wonder why fire engines are painted red,as i believe it has something to do with being "seen" on the road so people will react accordingly!

So why is it harder to see red cars like our own? From what I understand, they are easier to see when you are looking at them, however it is much easier to miss them when its in your peripheral vision (less color sensitivity). I'm no expert, just relaying personal experience, so I could be wrong. But if Red cars were harder to see across the board, why do you have urban legends that say that red cars are pulled over by cops more often?

because red cars "stand out" in a line of traffic. there is a reason why red is referred to as "arrest me red",because it is "picked up" by the eye more readily.
