Not once have I been asked what color my car was when getting insurance. Your VIN also doesn't disclose this information.

Guaranteed that the UPS driver feels worse than you do. That is a very good job and they are extremely hard on drivers that have "at fault" accidents. He may very well lose his job which could have a huge impact on his family for the rest of his life. Jobs like that are hard to get and even harder to replace. Postal Service carriers are in the same boat.

I feel bad for you but I feel worse for him. Your car will get fixed and you will be happily on your way. One split second of inattention could have changed his whole life for the worse.

I am glad no one was physically hurt.

So why is it harder to see red cars like our own? From what I understand, they are easier to see when you are looking at them, however it is much easier to miss them when its in your peripheral vision (less color sensitivity). I'm no expert, just relaying personal experience, so I could be wrong. But if Red cars were harder to see across the board, why do you have urban legends that say that red cars are pulled over by cops more often?
In talking with a couple of CHP officers, apparently white is actually the most pulled over color. Just because it's the easiest to see in every condition that isn't a snowstorm.

They are the hardest to see as red is the weakest color in the spectrum the visible spectrum.
Been down the road with 3 cars in the past. All have been hit, by people that said they could not see it. At least there is science to support it.

So green or violet is a best color?

Well, I guess I'll be wrapping my FRS/BRZ in violet when I buy it

well if it makes you feel better, the UPS driver will be fired and will be paying for your damage out of packet (as per company policy). Quite sorry to hear about your car good sir. At least it can be fixed and it is just cosmetic.

Actually, purely from a visibility standpoint, Yellow is one of the best colors to be noticed, followed by bright green and white. Has to do with the reflection of the solar spectrum. Shorter wavelengths like blue and violet are harder to spot in natural (solar) light because the majority of the sun's visible spectrum is in the green/yellow range.

Your vehicle registration has this information which can be queried by insurance companies, just like your credit rating which is factored in just another risk assessment.

Insurance companies would simply ask you if they actually cared, rather than scrounging for vehicle registration information. Make, model, driving history and insurance options are what dictate the majority of your premium. The color of the car affecting your insurance premium is a myth.
