I had a '00 Civic Si stolen, about $15k payout. I used the full $900 worth of my rental allowance, aaaand...a tree from my yard fell right onto the roof of the rental on its last night parked in my driveway(day 30) which my insurance company also had to pay for at NO COST TO ME because it was an act of God

I definitely got my moneys worth out of that company. Good, because they took almost 60 days to pay me. The funny part is that they warned me that I would probably be dropped(just me). I responded by laughing and reminding them of the nearly 60 day time frame and told them I had no intention of giving them another dime of money.

They lost a house and 5 cars that day and damn it felt good to fire them.

Health insurance is mandatory in the People's Republic. You pay a big tax penalty for not having it. Can't wait to get outta here, believe me.

Read the last part of my post #28 again. You better hope you have more than just enough for a rainy day. People who have plenty to lose believe in insurance because they want to protect their assets/possessions. People who have nothing to lose generally consider insurance a rip off. The people who have nothing to lose and drive with no or little insurance leave themselves open to working the rest of their lives paying for a judgement the courts have placed against them for injury or damage they caused. Keep in mind you could be responsible at any time for an accident. One of the definitions of an accident is something unexpected, unintentional and unavoidable. You never know till it happens and then it's too late. One mistake could mess you up for the rest of your life.

south Jersey--Gieco--just re-newed and no change is cost.

And the above post is 100% correct..you carry insurace for liability and asset protection. Now...get rid of the lawyers and it would not be an issue!

Man o man I wish I had any of those rates. The area where I'm from around Toronto has some of the highest rates in North America. Regular quotes came to about 400-500 a month and the absolute cheapest I was able to find using my University and professional associations is about 300 a month. Clean record, 22

$3600 - $6000 per year?

For what kind of coverage? See my earlier post for a sample description.

How can young people afford a new car in Canada?

Other parts of Canada could vary and from what i have checked, do have better rates. as for my area, most of us flat out can't, i was lucky enough to get some decent jobs growing up and coming out of school which let me justify it. rates like this have become the norm where I live due to rampant insurance fraud. Those rates aren't just high cause its an frs either, it's high regardless just cause of the fraud. Coverage is full with 1000 deductible on both collision and comprehensive and 1 million liability which is the minimum here.
