Could it just be a characteristic of the gearbox? My altezza j160 does the same thing but its not bad for me.

I'm running redline mt90.

Same experience for me. The transmission is my biggest problem with my BRZ, borders on unacceptable sometimes. I am very nervous shifting from 1st to 2nd in the morning as even with Pentosin it may grind. But better overall with Pentosin.

I've installed a Cusco transmission collar mount and this has helped with 1st>2nd, 2nd>1st and 2nd>3rd shifting.

Shifting is faster, more precise and smoother. Shifting from 2nd to 1st at very low speeds is now a possibility whereas before I was not comfortable even trying it.

Downside is there is a little more transmission whine but its not annoying.

has your issues been fixed yet? if so, what has been done? im still getting the shitty shifting even 1000 miles later, today.

took the car in for the 1 month inspection and asked about it. they said it was normal and thats how the car was made. so im curious.

It sounds like the wrong weight of gear oil for the temperature. If it's notchy when cold but fine after it warms up, the first number needs to be upgraded eg. XXw-XX. I seem to recall that the colder it is the heavier weight oil you need. Any gear oil experts on here?

i think its the opposite with the oil same thing with motor oil colder it is the thinner it needs to be, hotter temps need thicker oils. think about it if the tranny is scratching the syncros when its cold is because the oil isnt able to expand enough to cover all the parts correctly when its warm the tranny is fully coated = fully functional trans

Same here. Switched to Pentosin, much better, but still grinds on occasion when cold.
