Potential bad gear box?

when i first purchased the car, the gears would shift right into spot like a hot knife on butter. however, now occasionally the gears would act up and require a little bit of effort to pop into position. and it happens randomly. and other times it would be perfectly smooth. anyone else getting this problem?

Mostly 1st to 2nd?

Weather affects it as well and I highly doubt its a bad tranny tho we did have one car were the dealer forgot to fill the tranny fluid.

Easy fix tho get some Motul in that gear box and you will be fine.

Are you new to driving a MT car? Does this occur during upshifts, downshifts or both?

i took a few year break from driving MT. but i dont feel that is a factor. it happens both up and down shifts.

Mine started crunching into second gear after about 300kms. Is worse when it is cold gets a bit better when it is warm.

DriftEightSix 01-30-2013 06:51 AM

I had crunching right up till i had my serviced today :D

It back to being hot knife into butter :D.

I will ask tomorrow what they did to it to make it soo much better!

What mileage are you at?

Mine has been a little tough to get into second when it's cold. Only noticed recently with about 4500 miles. Going to swap out the fluids. Was going to do it when I had around 1k miles, but never got around to it.

Had my transmission replaced for the shifting getting harder then it started grinding going into 4th every time.

I got the same problem.. 2nd gear randomly grinds. Other times is perfectly smooth.. Switched to Pentosin MTF-2 tranny fluid for 4K miles now, but I still get the random grinds. Pentosin did make shifts feel alot better/easier though, especially when it's cold. Before Pentosin, it was all but impossible for me to shift into 2nd when cold.

I am starting to notice after a long drive (30 minutes or more) the grinds rarely, if ever, occur anymore.. maybe it goes away after the tranny gets really hot?

I put Motul Gear 300 in mine and although it is better it still hasn't fixed 2nd gear when the car is cold and it's below freezing. Above freezing the Motul has definitely made everything much smoother though. I will be trying Pentosin next. Unfortunately it is very expensive. There's only so many times I want to spend $100 bucks to see if some other fluid will make things better. But I will report back on the difference between the Motul and Pentosin for me when I get around to changing it.

Also forgot to mention that if its really bad in the cold double clutching helps a lot

It was the only way to change gears!! evens whilst rev matching it wasn't 100% smooth.
