The scavenge pump is for the oil return... not the feed. It returns the oil from the small resivour under the turbo to the head/block. Same style pump as used on the factory turbo F engines. The feed is still fed by the usual pressure from the block/factory pump. |

I live in SF! =) May I please come take a ride in your beast when it is all up and running properly? I am really interested in getting this kit but want to experience it first hand before $$$ plunking.

I am not an expert, but Paul told me the 2.5" is fine. I have his kit installed on my FR_S in anticipation of the Stage TWO in the next month or so.
BTW, it sounds great. Bigger is not always better. (which I tell my wife alot)

I'd never have anything less than a 3" exhaust on a turbo kit, less restriction the happier the turbo is. More power, faster spool.

Nope this turbo will max out before it makes enough power to need a 3" system.

Took less than 30 mins and fit fine. no pics. I got the one without the resonator. BTW, i got a very nice drop in hi-flow air filter ( dry ) from Apexi. HAH! I just realized you think I got the turbo kit... NO. just the Exhaust kit.

Seems to be some misinformation in some of the above few posts about exhaust size considerations with this kit.
To clarify... The system will make more peak power with a 3" exhaust instead of a 2.5" However, only marginally. BUT, this will be at the expense of low down power and spool. The turbo will NOT spool quicker with a 3" exhaust, over a 2.5" exhaust. For the minimal top end gain, for the expense for low down power/spool, it is not advisable to choose a 3" system over a 2.5" system FOR THIS KIT. On a similar point, where others have commented that the turbo will run out of power before a 2.5" becomes restrictive, this is basically true. What they are meaning is that a 2.5" exhaust system does not become significantly restrictive when compared to a 3" system at the power levels this turbo turbo is capable of. It's not like it reaches a magic point where one is better than the other, its like 90% of things on cars, its all about compromise. The more boost this kit is running, the larger the peak HP difference will be between a 2.5" system and a 3" system, but the 2.5" will ALWAYS be better for this kit in a daily driven setup. If you are track racing the car, a 3" system is probably a better choice for you, BUT, then you really have a mismatched exhaust system/turbo kit, and I would advise looking at a different turbo kit if you are chasing peak power. Remember, dyno's are done are full throttle. And even worse, some people only focus on the peak power on a dyno graph. How often do you drive the car at full throttle, and at max revs on the street? In short, a 2.5" exhaust system is perfectly mated to this turbo kit power delivery. (FWIW, if you seriously believe a larger exhaust would help spool and low down power, then take the exhaust system off from the turbo back and go take it for a drive) |

350rwhp or less 2.5 will be fine
351rwhp and more id suggest 3" You will see a gain in power and a gain in spool. I've seen a gain of up to 50rwhp in a turbo setup by removing a cat, you dont want any restriction in a turbos exhaust. Thats why high HP cars have about 1 foot of exhaust and exits right off the side of the engine. |

You don't want any restriction for peak power, this is why high HP cars have as little exhaust as possible. But back pressue helps spool turbos. When you're talking high HP, using a smaller exhaust to create back pressure to generate spool sooner will act as a massive restriction on peak power. This is not the case for this setup. Edit - Prove to me with dyno graphs showing the same car running the same turbo setup, the only difference being a bigger exhuast, that shows the larger exhaust helps spool. Until then I still call BS. Is a 2.5" system going to be a significant restriction on this kit? No its not. So, use it, as the smaller piping will create more back pressure to help the turbo spool sooner. |
