More on TPMS here:

Sensors don't have to rotate to communicate.

Computer only holds one set of codes.

I'm lazy. I put a small vinyl decal on the clear cover above the light. Not 100% coverage, a little light bleeds around it at night. It works OK.

My original wheel/tires are close enough to where I park, so the light rarely comes on.

The OE set hasn't moved in weeks, so I don't think they require movement to trigger the sensors.

Great tutorial, thanks a lot!

It took me about 20 minutes...I blocked the cavity rather than stuffing it. You can easily plug the cluster back in to make sure you haven't blocked the surrounding lights, one of which is the high beam indicator.

Everything fit back together snugly for me, there are no new rattles from the dash. If you are worried about that I recommend a small dot or thin smear of some low tack black silicone (not usually intended for bonding, more for use as a sealant) to ensure a tighter fit/seal that can easily be broken in the future if needed.

I went with a combination of cutting a foam earplug in 1/2 to shorten it and stuffing it in the hole. Then sealing the hole with a piece of duct tape cut to match the cavity, works great. No light leakage and total cost about $.05 and less than 10 min of my time including stopping to take the dogs out.

I purchased a new set of tpms for my new wheels, had them installed but never programmed. My tpms light turned off after a day and has not come back on. Did it disable itself or did it learn the new tpms sensors on its own?
i dont want to go through the trouble of letting the air out to see if it comes back on.

Are you parked near your stock wheels? Mine would turn off whenever I parked in the side of the garage where the stock wheels are stored.

I drove from Chicago to indianapolis right after changing the wheels. The light was on the whole way there, and off the whole way back. It hasnt come back on and I drive 7 miles to and from work. They are near where i park at home, but it has not turned back on at all.

Scratch that. I fixed it. One of the needles wasn't pressed down all the way.

After reading a lot on this, and knowing I'll have aftermarket summer and winter setups, this makes the most sense. Thanks to my outstanding mechanical skills, I am able to monitor and fill my tires with air without TPMS. It just adds cost, time, expense and headache. As long as this blocks the light 100% and I don't break anything pulling the dash apart, this is by far the best option. Great idea on the earplugs, too! Thanks for sharing that.

This. Mine reset every night and only come back on when I drive a consecutive ~30KM or so, which doesn't happen all that often in the city. And my stock wheels are stored about ~15+ feet away behind a cement wall

Reviving this thread.

Has there been any software routes? Namely, Toyota Techstream.

shows you how to pull apart the entire gauge cluster so you dont need to try and pry apart things. potentially breaking things
