in germany minimum octane is 95 (E10) (my s14 got only 100 octane) -
therefore the engine should have around 210hp/220nm here

here in holland we also have a minimum of 95 but 98 is also available.

How much would octane number effect the power output of this engine?

on my direct injected 2.0 it makes quite a difference but it's custom mapped to run on 98.

sample:
ford focus 2.5 ST : on 95octane 225hp - on 98octane 238octane

of course this effect is not so big on NA engines

They're only wrong if:
*you trust non-SAE J2723 certified power ratings [thankfully, since 2005, most OE's implement this voluntary certification to ensure a reasonably level playing field.
*there is a problem with that specific engine
*the engine isn't broken-in correctly [very common, especially those that trust BMW's idiotic recommendations]
*and/or you're using an inaccurate/non-calibrated dyno [be it engine or chassis].

In the US we use AKI, which is (RON+MON)/2. In Europe, RON is more commonly used. Here are the conversions:

US 87 = European 91-92
US 91 = European 95
US 93 = European 98

Price is deceiving for E85. Mind you your tax dollars are going into subsidized corn for ethanol.

Have the interior dimensions (headroom, legroom, cargo) been mentioned anywhere or on the specs sheet?

My biggest concern isnt the price, but whether or not I will fit in it comfortably. Its great that 4 wheels and tires will fit in it, but what about a baby seat in the back or a 6'1 220lb driver.

I hate to break this to you but whether or not you can put a baby seat in the back, this would be a terrible car to do it in. Two doors and a low roofline are going to kick your ass every time you need to get your kid or the baby seat in or out of the car.

I think the click in baby seats will be easy enough, but it's when they outgrow those after the first year and you're left butt-rubbing the front seat struggling to get the right angle to not smack their head on the car... those would be the tough years.

My kid is almost in a booster seat and climbs in to his regular car seat by himself, so all I need to do is buckle him up, which he doesn't protest. It wouldn't be ideal, but it's better than my Miata with a passenger airbag that has no switch to turn off (97). He can't ride in "daddy's sportscar" now at all, so having the back seat as an option for him makes for a happier family. Will it replace my WRX wagon? No. Can I take my son out for spirited canyon drives? Oh yeah!

I thought I would look up the specs for the 93 RX7 just to get a visual of the proportions for the FRS, since I've ridden in the RX7. I was a little worried the FRS would be to cramp like an S2k and Miata, but it seems like it will be just fine.

In Inches

RX7
Length 168.5
Width 68.9
Height 48.4
Wheel Base 95.5
Weight 2826lbs
Power HP/TQ 255/217

FRS
Length 166
Width 69.8
Height 50.5
Wheel Base 101.1
Weight 2667lbs
Power HP/TQ 200/170
