MINIs come with run flats.

My vette had run-flats, and a can of inflator. I also carried a plug/patch kit, and had roadside assistance just in case. I will be keeping my spare in the FR-S, just cause it's nice to have.

Hence why I posted and had the goo in a can
Most S drivers change the tires for more responsive and lighter tires, myself included.

For local driving (within 60-90 miles of home) I'll often leave the spare tires at home for my Mini and BRZ, sometimes all summer. Spare doesn't fit in the trunk of my Miata anymore because of the coilovers I have on it. Had a flat on my Miata a few years ago on the way to work (bent the wheel) my wife brought a spare wheel/tire (full size) floor jack, and cordless impact out to me, and I was on my way a few minutes later. I also have AAA+ which is good for 100 miles of towing. I've had three flat tires in 27 years and over half a million miles of driving. If flats were a more common occurence for me, I'd consider carrying a spare all the time.

I don't like not having a spare, I was happy to see my FR-S came with a spare. I like having options and like to be self reliant until I have to. Friend with M Coupe is trying to find jack and a spare to carry even though it comes with a pretty honking 12v compressor.

I do take it out for track/AutoX.

I might just take it out all together. I drive on super busy roads and if I get a flat on the highway I'm gonna call a tow truck. I'm NOT using the widow maker to hoist my car in the air inches from speeding motorists.

I would think that the spare helps with how the rig would handle a severe rear-ending...

How much weight would this save?
Yes. I'm doing exactly this - gonna replace the full-size spare which eats half of the trunk space, does not provide flat floor in the trunk and adds 15-20 kilo of weight (together with all the gears which are supposed to be used in wheel changing) without providing anything usefull (for me) in exchange.

Had to order flat (no hole in the middle) OEM trunk liner for nearly $300 and a "trunk space organiser" or whatever it is called - the box which goes instead of the spare wheel - another $150. Would gladly swap my spare wheel with someone from Europe who got all above mentioned as standard but too complicated to arrange.

Maybe if it was like a Jeep Wrangler with spare mounted on the rear bumper

Normal Minis have a spare under the car. A chain lowers it.... My friend had a Mini, but the chain rusted through so she just put the spare in her trunk. I took the spare out of my Civic, but will probably keep the one in my BRZ.

Hers must have been a regular Mini Cooper (non-s) like I have. Those came standard with non-runflat tires and a spare tire. Cooper S models came standard with runflat tires and no spare. On the "S" models the battery is in the rear, where the spare tire is on the non-S model.

Everything from the rear bumper cover to the back seat is the crumple zone given the size of the "86". It would be interesting if there is documentation that indicates if the spare tire (and wheel) were factored into meeting Fed crash specs. Many cars manufacturers do this...

I would like to find one of these. Any chance you have a part number? Does anyone else know of this part? Is it OEM somewhere?
