Considered Miata for classic RWD fun. High-pressure dealership and long overdue refresh prevented that. Word on the street is late 2014, which is past my timeframe.
Considered Fit for AutoX and future B-spec racer. 3rd choice. Considered Focus hatchback, since Ford paid my bills for a few years. Too many frills covering up inferior design. Great car for most though. Considered Cooper S, but odd maintenance issues and a long overdue refresh prevented that. Still my 2nd choice. FR-S was love at first drive. Auto trans was legit. Innovative design in a simple package. Aftermarket following ensured years of projects and fun.

I was in the market for a 350/370z for the past two years. Every dealership wanted either a large deposit or my Altima (NEVER put your daily driver on the table..ever.) I got a straight offer from the manager (29k for any non-nismo 370z on the lot. He really wanted Alti..)
Then I spotted a full custom, track ready, orange pearl 370z on my way back from Laredo. Simply could not afford it and broke my heart when I saw the new owner did not keep it clean. I asked my car loving friends what would be a good alternative. They all agreed that the FR-S was a good choice. (it was actually a prank; as I was not aware how tough they were to get in stock.) A few trips and three test drives later (FRS manual, Genesis coupe and Automatic) I gave a deposit and did the pre-approved paperwork. Two weeks later on a Saturday, Escher arrived. Some **** tried to buy him, but the VIN already was registered under my name from the factory (manufacture date: Nov 2012). I brought him home that Monday (needed the insurance fully registered first.) and revealed the day before Christmas to said friends that I got one. They were shocked and congrats were in order. Love on arrival ever since.

First post here! But I almost bought either a new WRX or Civic Si sedan... But the FR-S just felt better.

I was looking at a number of different cars ( car schizophrenia) and was struggling at what I wanted. Thought seriously about the 370Z as they were giving good deals. Also a Golf Diesel, Honda CRZ ( liked the styling but not the hybrid engine), Miata but wanted a real hardtop. Liked the Veloster conceptually but Hyundai still in my mind is not up to par just yet. Cast an eye towards the Mustang GT and wished I had gotten a Pontiac G8 before they stopped producing them. The FRS came along at the right time and was what I had been waiting for for 20 years....Now that new 2014 Corvette is teasing me to no end.

Came very close to a 2013 Audi TT RS, but found out we had a second little one on the way. Cut my budget in half and I'm still very happy

Haven't bought an FR-S or BRZ yet, but almost sold my Raptor off with the intent of buying one.
(Also almost went for the Golf R but decided it wasn't worth the premium). Currently still on the fence between possibly either the Subaru BRZ or the upcoming 2014 Fiesta ST. No problems with the Raptor, except fuel consumption. 21L/100km (11mpg) mixed driving. Monthly fuel costs range anywhere between $400-$1600... Depending how much I drive... Which is a little on the riduclous end of the spectrum. Love the truck which is why I'm hesitant, but considering cutting monthly fuel costs and putting the extra money in the bank for a downpayment on a place. I don't owe anything on the truck, which is why selling it would get me into the car with cash left over to bank. |

A rarely driven rust free 1995 240sx, but they don't exist
A good deal on a 2007 Lotus elise S with the Toyota engine, hard to insure A lowmilage 2003-up manual Toyota MR2 Spyder, monthly payments were higher than a new FR-S A Miata in good shape with LSD and a fiberglass top that wasn't bright red - difficult to find but I know they are out there. I bought my FR-S on Labor day, it was hard to find one with a manual tranny, really wanted white out but grabbed a silver one. I am happy with my FR-S now that it has a new ECU. Though wish it came with better tires and a manual steering rack.

Considered a Mustang GT, Camaro V6 2LT, VW GTI, all new with manual trans from $25k - $28k after discounts. Kept coming back to the FR-S, something about it just felt "right". Bought it about two weeks ago and having a blast!

Was seriously considering the STI and Evo X MR, but apparently the first needs alignment and suspension tuning out of the box, and the latter can't be tracked too hard without transmission cooling upgrades.
Those things, plus the price difference, maintenance costs and everyone agreeing the twins are more fun to drive is what made me choose the FR-S. |

I had a C6 and rergret selling my 2008 C6 with Z51 (sold it for $24k back in Nov 2012)...Looked for another C6 but none had the Z51 for under $27k and the Grand Sports were in high $30k's...For now the FR-S will have to do until the C7 used market grows....
I looked in to the following: 2008+ C6 Corvette - to replace the one I sold (regret seliing mine) 2010+ BMW 135i - HPFP issue killed that idea 2006+ Lotus Elise/Exige - Seem to have jumped 20% in price since 2009 when I started looking for one 2008+ Evo X - Cheaper to insure a C6 ZR1 than this car The FR-S should hold me over for 2 years and then back in the market for a used C7, used GTR, used Viper, or used R8. Perhaps a Turbo or Supercharger will make me miss my C6 less ![]() Quote:

I was also looking at a 370Z, Boxster S and Lotus Elise but when the price of the 86 was announced it was the best option by far
