That is actually worrying - so when it's time for the 15000km service, do they expect US to supply THEM with oil at OUR expensive? Fat chance of that happening...

Very worrying... I'd love to hear Toyota SA's response about what Menlyn had to say... Mccarthy Bruma knew about the oil! And they said they would only order if a car was pre-booked for service.

Not going to happen with me. I don't mind paying for consumables, but they need to supply it. I'm not taking responsibility for anything breaking due to it.

Exactly Mike. It's one thing to tell me to bring my own oil. Luckily I know a little bit about oil, but, what if I was a woman and bought SAE60?

I was thinking a (uneducated and ill-informed - don't generalise! ) woman would go with a can of the best, good old GTX 20W50... Protects the hell out of your engine (if it was made 35y ago)...

Hi Guys

This is just some info for those that don't know much about oil. The numbers on the oil grade is the viscosity of the oil when it's cold and hot. (5W30) The lower the number the colder temp it can handle.
We don't have heavy minus temps here in SA, hence the 5W viscosity is better suited to our climate. We have hotter days than Japan, and Europe hence the 30 instead of 20.

Remember to keep your oil level above the minimum mark else their is insufficient oil to lubricate your engine properly.
Do not overfill above the max mark else you will just end up burning away the excess oil (car will smoke).

Check your oil when the car is cold. Can be warmish, but not hot, else the oil level will give a higher than expected reading.
Car must be on a level surface.

Guys - who has done there first service already on the 86's - 15 000kms.
Firstly which dealership did you go to and how was the service.
I'm a bit sceptical of taking the 86 to any dealership so I need some insight please.

Toyota Secunda,

they where the 1st to repair the stall and spatter issue by replacing my Cam Gear, they had to remove the entire front of the car and drain the oil to remove the cam-chain cover.

6000km further and no issues

I think the first step is to phone the service manager at your proposed dealer and ask how many 86's they have serviced. I'm about 6900km away...
