Should've clarified... I meant fit without poking.

It does have a beveled edge or whatever, but it's still horizontal and sticks in 1/2"-3/4". Less need to roll the rears for most people. They did cut the material back some tough.

What tires are you putting on?

For example, I purchased 245/35/18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport. The section width of the 245/35/18 PSS is the same as a...say.. 255s Yoko S-Drives or 255s Hankook V12s. 255s AD08s will almost be an inch wider than 245s PSS.

Generally, the more "Extreme" summer tires have a slightly wider tread width.
265s Evo v12s is only 0.1" wider in tread width compare to a 245 PSS. Depends what you want, i chose the latter.

Hmm good info, I am going with the Hankook V12's. The car they said they had rubbing with was lower than mine will be and they had fit Michelin PSS which were rubbing a little in 255.

You have to remember that many customers are depending on the tire store to get the right tire on the car. And their past experiences with the particular car will be a factor. They want to do the best for you but also don't want to spend a lot of extra time on a wasted effort and risking damaging a vehicle or causing a mechanical failure and maybe a wreck. There are so many people out there that will blame the tire company and demand they fix the problem at their cost. You might consider since this is a special project that it may cost you more. Just because a customer says a tire will fit probably isn't enough for the tire shop staff who deal with tire fitment everyday. Good luck. Maybe find a shop interested in this modification process.
