Downside is that it then occupies the OBD II port so that's all you get (looking at that PDF). I have a techstream (don't ask how ). Will be away in Darwin this week but get on it when I'm back as tablets are becoming cheaper.

Yes, you are correct. You can't use OB-Link or ELM327 or anything else in the OBD2 when using this gauge. But, I assume you can unplug and plug something else in, just not use them at the same time.

Yes, Techstream can read live engine oil temp.
Unless you can hack the Techstream software (and have a recent enough version), you won't be able to get the PID straight away.
The long way is to monitor each PID during warmup ...
The quick way to get it would be 'sniff' all PIDs without Techstream running, then a second one whilst Techstream is on with a custom data list with only the desired channel selected. The difference between the two will be that you will see at least 20 times per second the request and reply for that PID will be sent over the CAN-BUS.
You would need to work out a way to make a DLC3 double adapter though ...

Not sure of Europen suppliers but you can get from New Zealnd here with worldwide shipping http://www.fortyone.co.nz/parts/show...%20Gauge.html#
Make sure you choose the Subaru one and if you want orange or white illumination.

Or from Japan here - this is the BRZ one as your profile says you have a BRZ. Woud be good to be able to buy from an FT86 club vendor but I haven't found one that has it.

EcuTEK is most likely pulling the data directly from RAM addresses and bypassing OBD all together.. that is why they have a fast logging rate with lots of parameters.

Did you chaps see this! Oil temp PID

Without further delay, here's the info:
OBD2 Mode and PID: 2101
Minimum Value: -40
Maximum Value: 215 (this is just the maximum that this location can support, which does not mean the sensor can read that high)
Scale factor: x1
Unit type: C
Equation: AC-40 (no space between A and C; "AC" is the location within the response)
OBD Header: 7E0 (Auto also works, but seems to take longer)

Just as an aside, I don't know if it's my OBD adapter, or the Header needs to be tweaked (corrected), or if the response is not always long enough but every once in a while I'll get a reading of 189 or 1840 which are both incorrect. I'm not familiar enough with torque to figure out where these glitches are coming from.

Enjoy!
Andrey

Oil temp using Dash Command on iphone and ipad.

Posted this in a couple of threads so sorry for the cross post but want to make sure as many people that are interested in this know about it.

As many of you will know you cannot currently add the oil temp PID for the twins to Dash Command to get oil temp to show on an iPad or iPhone.

Best option at the moment is to use Torque on an Android. Not good for iOS users.

If you use an iPhone or iPad and want to be able to see oil temp gauge using dash command PLEASE go to the developers Dash Commnd forum and add you voice to the request thread here.

http://www.palmerperformance.com/for...pic=6351.0;all

They are looking at adding Toyota/Subaru specific sets of data but also other makes. The more of us that request either being able to add specific PIDs or a Toyota/Subaru set the more likely we get to the front of the queue for development.

Also a good idea to write an app review of Dash Command and tell them you have voted it down due to no oil temp for the 86 or BRZ.

Let's get the FT86 Club to put the pressure on their development team! 86ers are go!

honestly think this is the best way, i popped mine in just to see the results but ended up leaving it there,
the best bit is that you can match the colour to the dash...

Where do you run the cord?

I still like the idea of gauges on an android head unit best but agreed that looks pretty good.

In behind the column, straight to OBDII. You can't see it.
It's just easy too and always on, unlike apps.
