Thanks for the luck in the job market; I'm the CIO of a large regional healthcare firm, and I'm fairly certain that the lives we save will cover my contribution to society. As far as friends, I'm perfectly content there too. I have been very luck to encounter and maintain friendships with some of the best people I've ever met. I'm done on this thread. Flame me all you want, like I mentioned, I really don't care what people think. Especially some Internet expert. The ad hominem attacks and useless banter may be fun for some of you, but I'm not one of them. Last edited by rhoyle; 01-31-2013 at 02:25 PM. |

So if you are driving on all seasons, and you are driving within the limits of the car for the situation, and someone in front of you does something stupid and because of the All Season tires you do not have sufficient grip to either avoid, or stop before a collision or you go into a ditch or you hit some pedestrians it has nothing to do with the tires?
Granted this can happen in the summer or what ever, but the tires would be much less a factor then. CIO? So you would be the one in charge of knowing and buying and using the best equipment for any situation your company would face...who would of thought. |

When you can safely go the speed limit on A/S or summer tires - we have no problem whatsoever. The problem starts when you can't get going from a traffic light within reasonable amount of time. Happens every day.

And doctors save lives, you don't, don't take credit for other people's work. Combined with what you said earlier about caring about other people, I think it paints a pretty clear picture. |

Perhaps not directly saving a patient's life, but perhaps indirectly. I work for a medical software company. The software we develop allows physicians to view a patient's complete medical history from facilities other than the one the patient is in. If you come into the ER and you're unable to communicate, the ER physician doesn't know that you will die of an allergic reaction to a specific medication because you have never been to this hospital. The ER doctor logs into our software and sees you have this allergy which was diagnosed at another facility, and now he knows he can't give you the medication he was going to give you, thus not killing you. So the software we make helped save this patient's life. That being said, rhoyle's narcissism is pretty awesome. I'd think a CIO living in a snow state would be intelligent enough to understand the "insurance" a set of snow tires provides. |
