Now look at this Nokian Hakkappeliitta LT snow tire:

Notice the tread blocks are a lot chunkier and there's a lot more space between them. Those little holes you see are where studs can be installed for extra ice traction. This is a dedicated snow tire for climates with frequent significant snowfall.

So which tire do you need? For temps consistently below 45 degrees and occasional snowfall, a performance winter tire like a Blizzak LM-60, Michelin Primacy Alpin PA3 or Pirelli Winter Sottozero II is the choice I'd recommend.

All-season tires are a compromise no matter how you slice it. They might be just enough to get the job done in the winter, but they're only just enough to get the job done in the summer, too. Why compromise in such an uncompromising car?
i agree in principal, however, some may just want to drive around on all seasons, and basically enjoy the car profiling, and could care 2 sh**s less about trackin' it,or doin' autocross.car still handles very well with the (a.s.) installed, and will still get you through in the event you get caught in snow and there is time to get off the road.another advantage,is (generally) you get longer wear out of a set of (a.s.) as opposed to a (h.p) tire.

Old people paying by check in supermarkets are also doing nothing wrong, just slow and annoying as hell.
That's what you two are advocating: ignore the technology and and crawl, annoying everyone around you.
People used to drive on wooden wheels too, let's do that.

Um, you mean before all-season tires? Before all-season tires were invented, humans relied on having two sets of tires for summer and winter(at least that's what I've been told as I wasn't alive back when they were invented).

Lemme throw some knowledge at all the readers:

Sorry, but you are a complete jackass if you are "content" with using the stock tires in any kind of snow.

Or maybe some of you people just live in open, flat land areas, with no hills. I dare you to try to get up or down a hill in snow on the stock tires. We will all be waiting on the forum to hear about how you crashed your car, and to say "I told you so".

Personally I have no problem annoying everyone around me. I really don't care what anyone else thinks, I'm going to drive safely, at whatever speed the equipment and conditions permit. And if you're so upset by how someone else pays in the supermarket maybe you should find a relaxing hobby.

Are winter tires better in winter conditions? Sure. Are they absolutely necessary? Not for most. 20 degrees this morning and 2" of snow. I had no problem going the speed limit. It's a road, not a racetrack.

Stopped reading there.
That's to be expected from someone driving summer tires on public roads with snow. There's a word for people like that.

Make sure you buy the latest smartphone as soon as possible (before the current one even comes close to becoming obsolete).

Altho you are probably too young to know you probably would be one of those who would have bought an electric carving knife as soon as they came out.

There are electric hybrids cars out there. Got one?

Also, you may want to consider doing your shopping at the supermarket when all "old people paying by check" are not there.

This all depend upon where one lives and how many snow days (as just one evaluation) one gets.
Living in Michigan, for instance, I find that there is a big difference between snow accumulation in the northern parts of the state and the southern parts of the state and, as a result, different tire preferences.

Having spent a considerable amount of time in Metro Detroit and the UP, I can attest that the road conditions in say, Livonia, are quite a bit better than those in Houghton. Not just due to the weather, but also the significant population difference and the fact that the roads are salted/sanded/plowed with much more urgency in the larger areas.

Explain your analogy. How me not upgrading to the latest phone wastes time of other people using some common resource?

And besides - I do recommend people get used to changing to the newest tech quickly. And with age this has to be done increasingly early if one wants to stay current, because it takes more time and effort to master newer technology. Without it one is risking becoming permanently unemployed at the age of 50-60. But this has nothing to do with people using old tech and spoiling everyone's use of a common resource(public road) and costing these other people time.

As long as you are happy and your needs are met, don't worry about trying to get along in a world full of other people. What you need and want is far more important, I am sure. And your benefit to society must be great too. Good luck with that in the job market and friends department. I personally think you are creating a hazard and obstacle to the other people on the road when you drive the car with stock tires in snow. Those people don't care about what you want to do, but find you slow down their day of trying to meet their personal needs. Pretty risky in my estimation.
