I personally think you are creating a hazard and obstacle to the other people on the road when you drive the car with stock tires in snow. Those people don't care about what you want to do, but find you slow down their day of trying to meet their personal needs. Pretty risky in my estimation.
I fail to see how my driving the speed limit, or whatever speed is appropriate for the conditions is inconveniencing anyone. I am saying that in poor weather conditions, drivers need to exercise caution. Don't go as fast. Don't follow so close. Don't make sudden moves. Those alone will go a long way in operating in less than ideal conditions. I'm tired of the "If you drive on the Primacy's under 50 degrees the wheels will fall of the car" argument. It's bullshit. Again, I'm not advocating driving the car in a foot of snow - but at least all the places I've lived, they have equipment to plow and treat roads to make them more drivable. And my experience thusfar, in Kansas with a BRZ, is that it's just fine for my needs with the stock tires. I'm sure I'm much less of a bother than the jackass with the snow tires testing the limits of their adhesion who wrecks into someone else. All that aside, I'm sure if I lived in Montana, I'd either drive something different or put different tires. As it stands, if I have to travel anywhere that's beyond 100 miles or so, I'm flying anyway.

Thanks for the luck in the job market; I'm the CIO of a large regional healthcare firm, and I'm fairly certain that the lives we save will cover my contribution to society. As far as friends, I'm perfectly content there too. I have been very luck to encounter and maintain friendships with some of the best people I've ever met.

I'm done on this thread. Flame me all you want, like I mentioned, I really don't care what people think. Especially some Internet expert. The ad hominem attacks and useless banter may be fun for some of you, but I'm not one of them.

That's what you two are advocating: ignore the technology and and crawl, annoying everyone around you.
People used to drive on wooden wheels too, let's do that.
if it means getting home, and not getting killed,i'm all for it! yeah! ' i guess i'm old as dirt! you could say that. been drivin' just about everything there is to drive over a 45 year span, and i'm still here!

we already know this, but thanks for the effort. everyone's driving situation is different, and to emphasize,if you don't need to be out in the snow, you don't need dedicated snow tires,in MY view.if it's imperative you have to drive in the snow all the time, then make damn sure you are wearing snow skins,ESPECIALLY,on THIS car!.

Are winter tires better in winter conditions? Sure. Are they absolutely necessary? Not for most. 20 degrees this morning and 2" of snow. I had no problem going the speed limit. It's a road, not a racetrack.
+1 well said!

good point! your geographic location is a variable NOT to be discounted.

So if you are driving on all seasons, and you are driving within the limits of the car for the situation, and someone in front of you does something stupid and because of the All Season tires you do not have sufficient grip to either avoid, or stop before a collision or you go into a ditch or you hit some pedestrians it has nothing to do with the tires?
Granted this can happen in the summer or what ever, but the tires would be much less a factor then.

CIO? So you would be the one in charge of knowing and buying and using the best equipment for any situation your company would face...who would of thought.

When you can safely go the speed limit on A/S or summer tires - we have no problem whatsoever. The problem starts when you can't get going from a traffic light within reasonable amount of time. Happens every day.

What's that got to do with anything?
And doctors save lives, you don't, don't take credit for other people's work. Combined with what you said earlier about caring about other people, I think it paints a pretty clear picture.

Perhaps not directly saving a patient's life, but perhaps indirectly. I work for a medical software company. The software we develop allows physicians to view a patient's complete medical history from facilities other than the one the patient is in. If you come into the ER and you're unable to communicate, the ER physician doesn't know that you will die of an allergic reaction to a specific medication because you have never been to this hospital. The ER doctor logs into our software and sees you have this allergy which was diagnosed at another facility, and now he knows he can't give you the medication he was going to give you, thus not killing you. So the software we make helped save this patient's life.

That being said, rhoyle's narcissism is pretty awesome. I'd think a CIO living in a snow state would be intelligent enough to understand the "insurance" a set of snow tires provides.
