Doesn't it mean it will have idle dip if you turn on the AC?

I'd say it will.

I have some experience with tuning GM LS series engines. There appears to be a hole in the tuning for A/C cycling in this Subaru platform. Tweaking routines in the GM tune you could really minimize the effect of A/C compressor kick at idle.

My tC had a similar but much worse idle dip than my BRZ, with or without the A/C on. I'll bet Toyota had a hand in the idle programming of these cars.

My car started to rough idle this morning and it smelling really bad.

Thing is I put in the right gas in the car. I am actually scared to drive the car to the dealership. I guess I will have the car towed there.

I've been having inconsistent idle the past two days. Tonight I noticed something cycling on and off in conjunction with the idle changes. Sure enough, I had the fan set to a mix between floor and defrost as it's been raining for the past two days.

Switched to floor only, idle issue stopped.

To me, there shouldn't be idle issue regardless of the compressor on or off.
How low does your idle RPM drop to with the compressor on?
Does it drop to like 400 and the car shudders?

I've mentioned it before many times that my idle drop only happens when the compresor is running. Nobody seemed to care. At least now there's another person who confirms it.

Mine happens only when the compressor is running too. But what gets me is that it only happens a few times a month. Idle drops every 15 seconds or so when the compressor turn on and off, and low enough for it to shudder a bit. It keeps doing that until I turn the engine off and turn it back on. Other than those few times a month, the idle is stable even with the compressor running. It's weird.

It normally idles at roughly 650 RPM, drops to 500 or so as the compressor kicks on. Same thing happens if you press both power window switches; dips for a second then compensates for the added load.

I wouldn't say it shudders, but it gets a little rough when it dips. I can feel it mainly if I'm resting my hand on the shifter (which I usually am when stopped at a light).

Mine idles roughly around 600 as well. Not much shuttering though. Is it safe to assume 600rpm idling is ok?

My manual trans idles at 600 without A/C and 650 with A/C.
I heard automatic trans idles a little bit higher.

My car just starting exhibiting some strange idling issues. I've got an AT, when sitting in park with heat off / dials not set like @FRSFirestorm said, and RPM goes from 600 (normal) drops to ~350 then shoots up to ~750, then dips to 600.

Goin in for my free oil change/crickets/odds and ends, i'll be sure to bring this up if it continues.

Mine had a weird idle dip yesterday as well. No CEL as of yet, but I guess it's only a matter of time now...
