Minimal risk, no more than the stock intake snorkel. They are both at the same height and in the same location. The VMS filter is completely protected by the bumper cover so it can't get wet from driving in a downpour. You'd have to be driving in knee deep water to risk hydrolocking.

So I was reading the catch can thread and it brought me across some good info about the PCV system and how I had my Moroso AOS set up wrong as a closed system.

  • The tube running from the front of the engine to the intake is the breather tube this tube is not under vacuum.
  • 80-90% of all blow by gas is routed to through the PCV valve to the intake manifold. This is where you will collect the most amount of oil, unburned fuel and water vapor in a catch can.
  • The breather tube is for excess blow by not routed through PCV only under high load, namely in forced induction.
  • If you are NOT running forced induction, running a catch can on the breather tube is basically useless.
  • Blow by gases increase in a linear fashion based on engine load. (Lower Load = Less | Higher Load = More)
  • If you drive for efficiency (low engine load) blow by will be minimal and thus a catch can on either the PCV line or breather line would catch little to nothing.
  • PCV Systems including vacuum are integral part of engine design and included in air to fuel ratio computation by ECU/ECM.
I needed to redo mine... I was wondering why I hadn't caught anything in around 800 miles of spirited driving... DERP

Took like 10 minutes and just reused what I had, just had to trim the hoses a bit.

fixed!

now using the rear pcv instead of the front breather

Tidied up

Hopefully this helps anyone that is mistakenly using the front breather hose.

Hopefully this helps anyone that was using the front beather hose.

Good job, also double check if Moroso has an inlet and outlet labeled for the can?

Regardless, after a track day you should see a lot of accumulation.

Intake sounds great! What was the increase in whp or wtq?

Thanks! Only butt dyno so far, but it's pulling harder than both the Airaid and the stock intake with an Apexi drop in filter.

Vigilant made 166whp over 161whp on a dyno with their CAI. Having fans blowing on the car to simulate road speeds is crucial.

Your BRZ is looking really good. I like what you did to the tail lights. Keep up the great work.

That intake sounds great. I probably should have gone with that but I picked up the AEM system. I'm happy with the results, but it's not quite as loud (from what it sounds like in videos).

Thanks! Are you planning on installing an oil cooler? That's one of the main reasons why I sold my Airaid intake and went with the VMS. I had no room to fit a sandwich plate and run the lines. The AEM airbox looks a bit smaller than the Airaid so it may not be an issue.

No plans to at this point. I'm waiting for more developments on the Innovative Motorsports Twin Screw kit. I'll likely have to alter/replace the intake.

Gotcha. I'm curious how the AEM's MAF signal "cleaner" thingie would work on other intakes...

Sorry to side-bar your thread. I'm sure you can make more power out of a tune but for a plug and play unit it works great. I'll be interested in seeing some more evidence of what it modifies/what and how it tricks. I'm also looking forward to some dyno numbers. I know FT86 Speed Factory is really good about publishing their findings.

Your intake sounds more "aftermarket" to me. Sort of what I was expecting from mine, but the AEM sounds like a more aggressive OEM sound. I'd say similar to a K&N drop in filter on a lot of cars, maybe a little more aggressive. I like that slight metallic sound from yours. If you have ever head an intake on a S2000, that's what I like to hear in an intake. I'm debating a mild exhaust, perhaps Borla. It's my daily and I work at a HQ of a fortune 100, so I don't want anything suggesting my inner child.

I just filed my tax return this morning and by the time I see the funds, I think the Eibach Multi-Pro R2 Coilovers will be available. I've been waiting on those, running KW V3s on my M3 and want to try something different. (Love the KWs but the specs on the Eibachs look very legit). Let me know if you have any other recommendations on handling (I plan to do wheels/tires after the coilovers). I've seen some bushings and a ton of reinforcement bars, but thinking more what actually makes a good difference. I installed my hotchkis sways (F&R) over the weekend and love them.

A few goodies arrived today!

First of which are the newly released RaceComp Engineering hollow front and rear sway bars! Both front and rear have 2 adjustment positions. They feature integrated anti-walking tabs to eliminate unwanted lateral movement of the bars during cornering, as well as a a nice subtle gray powdercoat finish.

Quote:
FRONT
OE bar: 18 mm solid
OE measured bar rate: 24.7 N/mm

Racecomp Engineering bar 25mm tubular, adjustable
2 position adjustable
P1 = 60 N/mm (335 lbs/in)
P2 = 80 N/mm (455 lbs/in)

REAR
OE bar: 14 mm solid
OE measured bar rate: 19.8 N/mm

Racecomp Engineering bar: 19 mm tubular, adjustable
2 position adjustable
P1 = 33 N/mm (188 lbs/in)
P2 = 45 N/mm (257 lbs/in)
Looking forward to installing these as they will be a great match for the RCE Yellow springs. I'll likely be setting the front to the softer setting and the rear at the stiffer setting because I like my car to rotate a little bit at the limit.

Thanks again to Myles and Andrew @Racecomp Engineering

Also had some new trans and diff fluid delivered today from Performance Racing Oils.

This stuff is the bees knees in the racing world with teams all over including Formula 1 testing it. Here's some more detailed info.

Quote:
Typical gear oils use molybdenum sulfide (aka “moly”) as an extreme pressure lubricant. Millers Oils use of nanotechnology does not break down as readily under pressure. This increase in robustness extends the life of gearboxes, and has proven to nearly double the life of test rigs. It also provides a lower coefficient of friction than does moly. Both behaviors lower gearbox temperatures. Reductions of 20 degrees F are typical.

The incorporation of nanotechnology in gear oils provides many benefits, including:
• Overall improvement in driveline efficiency
• More power to the wheels
• Lower operating temperatures
• Drastic improvement in component life
• Lowest coefficient of friction in the industry
Looking forward to getting this stuff in my car and tracking with it! I also have some of the Millers Racing Brake Fluid on the way too, they have a special price on that right now
