My car is in the shop for coilover installation right now and the guy there asked for $185 and one free height adjust if i dont like it. No alignment tho. He told me to wait a week or two to see how the car ride before alignment.

Coil over install is much quicker than springs install.

How long does it take to install coilovers? I shopped around and they all told me its an all day job and some place even asked me to leave the car over night. FRS is the only car I have so cant leave it overnight but wondering if 6 hours is enough time to install coilover since i dont want them to rush and mess up my car.

You can do this yourself in a few hours with basic hand tools and a torque wrench.

I live in the NE part of Houston...I know I didn't call that far out, perhaps I should have. Could you PM the name of the shop you used? I might put another set of struts before I replace the RSX.

Aren't a lot of suspension bolts torqued to over 100lb-ft? I've been able to get away with owning a 10-100lb-ft wrench for years, but only because I never did major suspension stuff.

Four of them are in this car. Both of the lower bolts on the front struts on each side. I have a bunch of torque wrenches but my primary one for suspension/general car stuff is a 30-250ft-lbs snap-on.

That all depends on whether or not the coilovers come with their own tophats, or reuse the stock top strut mounts. If the former, yes it is quicker, if the latter, it will be about the same. Of course there is the extra time involved in getting coilovers set to the desired ride height (and cornerweighted if you want), that will apply to any coilovers.

It's been 2 years, I can't remember the name of the shop, it was just a single guy in a garage but he had a hell of a garage. He didn't even have a website and I got referred to him by Ford Racing at Tommie Vaughn.

Lol, well that explains it. I used to know a mechanic like that but he moved to Florida. When you shop at the big shops, they bend you over.

I have lowered tons of cars over the years. I would do this job for $150.00 all day. Crazy to see people saying $750.00 for labor. Sounds like they didn't want to do it and just qouted you a high number.
