My Blacktop never missed a beat and when I traded her at 254000km - motor never opened and I bought it with 130000km. As for the 6 speed gearbox - flimsy! S2000 motor is a stunning piece of engineering and I can happily say I've never heard a bad story about them - if I hadn't needed the extra seats I may have taken a used one... For tuning ability then the Civic Vtec motor is well documented for strength where as the blacktop is somewhat maxed out.

Funny enough my buddy had to replace his 6 speed box, got a 5 speed and a silver top with no problems since.S2000 is one of my all time favorite cars. Have a look at what the Lotus 7 guys are doing with the Toyo 20 valve engines, not sure how they're making them reliable but they're getting some decent power out of them.

I'm running a 1600 ford kent motor and even that is insanely reliable in my 7 but probably only do 6000km per year. BTW one of the class A racers uses a modded s2000 motor in his 7. Crazy power to weight ratio.

Do you know if anyone has made use of the 4AG-ZE supercharged MR2 motor in any 7's? A guy in Kempton Park converts old mini's with the engine, gearbox and a T4 Turbo - Crazy power and wheelspin! The guy who works on my Mini's is a purest and keeps trying to extract the max out of the old BMC A-Series engine - his current project is a twincam 16 valve OHC head on the old motor - will be awesome when completed. http://www.look4itall.co.za/services...ages.php?id=85 Last edited by Vic_RSA; 01-04-2013 at 02:14 AM. |

My brother actually runs a 4ag-ze but its been converted to a turbo. If you can keep traction it's almost super bike quick ![]() Keeping toyota in the family, can't wait to take both toyotas out ![]() One of the reasons I was so attracted to the 86 is that it doesn't have a turbo, may not have as much straight line but especially for track use just way more useable.

Good old Mobil 1. I plan to use it as well. I dunno if we get that version here , I've only seen "regular" and "high mileage".

Guys did we finalize what coolant to use? My coolant is now slightly above the Low mark. When I purchased the car, it had a blue colour type coolant. When I went back to Toyota, they recommend I use a pink colour coolant. Is this the right stuff?

did a oil change today on 2000km. mcarthy midrand are now geared for it. must say there isnt much left of the 6th litre so will prob need to get another litre for top ups. it is the 5w30 diesel engine oil that tsa recommends... the oil filter is an identical subaru one to the one that was fitted. all and all just under R1200.. why did i do it? coz i want the right oil in there for our climate and seeing as the car is now run in it cant hurt... word of advice: ask the dealership if they have worked on 86's. if they havent they are going to run around trying to get the right parts etc. as they dont all stock them yet... if they went through it once they just order stock in...
