Water/air heat exchanger are much thinner than Air/air heat exchanger ( aka FMIC) their for much less restrictive to airflow going to engine radiator.
W/A heat exchanger are less than 1" thick. compare to FMIC that are often 2.5" thick |

It's a legitimate question, though. Still could be worth doing the math to see if there's a break-even point on a cooling system that takes advantage of heat of vaporization draw for a compressible gas refridge loop. Could just be that the added power draw is never made up for by the power added by the increased air density, but I'd like to see the numbers. I'm going to be doing a lot of heat calcs soon, so I might do the numbers once I get warmed up again.

Just do what the drag guys do and drop a load of ice into it
.While I like this kit, I prefer air-to-air intercoolers on the street simply because there's less to go wrong. AWICs can cool very well, I've just always been wary of that scenario where I need to fill some water and I don't have any, thus stranding me. Though trying to get a blown coupler reaffixed onto an air-to-air IC charge pipe on the side of the highway is no better AND I've actually been in that situation. |
