Water/air heat exchanger are much thinner than Air/air heat exchanger ( aka FMIC) their for much less restrictive to airflow going to engine radiator.
W/A heat exchanger are less than 1" thick. compare to FMIC that are often 2.5" thick

Oh the joys of adding heat, of any kind. FI or NA.

OEM radiators have their airflow impeded from the factory to begin with via the A/C Condenser. We could all improve the functionality of our radiators by removing that!

Other options: larger radiator, aluminum radiator, radiator shrouding to increase air flowing through it, high flow fans, reduction of glycol in coolant mixture, etc etc etc.

Now that is just crazy talk!!! I'd rather not have FI than remove my AC lol

I was planning to add a Killer Chiller type product that uses the A/C system to cool the intercooler liquid anyways.

Freon cooled IC core...I want to see frost on my goddamn intercooler!

It may get cool to the touch but the heat a sc or turbo will produce quickly overcomes the capacity of a refrigerant system.

Its been tried and tested in many forms. Doesn't work.

It's a legitimate question, though. Still could be worth doing the math to see if there's a break-even point on a cooling system that takes advantage of heat of vaporization draw for a compressible gas refridge loop. Could just be that the added power draw is never made up for by the power added by the increased air density, but I'd like to see the numbers. I'm going to be doing a lot of heat calcs soon, so I might do the numbers once I get warmed up again.

IMO the extra power draw would be worth it for the engine. Heat is the main killer of engine so if I could lose 1-2 hp just to keep the intake temps down a good chunk id probably do it.

Just do what the drag guys do and drop a load of ice into it .

While I like this kit, I prefer air-to-air intercoolers on the street simply because there's less to go wrong. AWICs can cool very well, I've just always been wary of that scenario where I need to fill some water and I don't have any, thus stranding me.

Though trying to get a blown coupler reaffixed onto an air-to-air IC charge pipe on the side of the highway is no better AND I've actually been in that situation.

This is why I'm just doing the one without the intercooler. ~80-100hp more with the non-intercooled car is plenty on this light car.
