If the interior is the worst thing about it, no wonder the rest of the car is so great! The interior is great in all the important points for a driver. Good firing seats. I was surprised as I expect seats from factory car to be too wide. Nice steering wheel, I measured and it's almost a prefect match to the Momo in my Corolla. Shifter placement falls right in hand, throw short & accurate. Had to hack & weld a shifter for my corolla and it still doesn't throw as short or nicely! Accessory controls placed well, window levers does require a bit of a cock of wrist as the door handle is kinda in the way. I like the simple controls. Had a rental cadillac couple months ago with soft touch and touch screen controls, hated it! Soft touch couldn't get accurate settings, touch screen you need to navigate menu screen to find things, pia. And you can't work by feel. Frs has just what you need, where you need. The only ergonomic complaint I would have is the clutch is hard to feel and engages to high, and not a big fan of throttle by wire.
Getting in & out of the FRS is actually not so bad compared to other sports cars, although assist handle(s) would have been a nice touch. Fold down rear gives a pretty decent amount of cargo, but it being not a hatch, it can be difficult to fit things through the low height of the trunk that would otherwise fit. |

Another vote for best interior possible, for me. Everything about the interior is simple and perfect. No digital HVAC, no bullshit to go wrong. The controls are where they should be.
Reminds me of sporty cars from the 90s. |

Im 6'6" 200lbs, and I have more leg/knee room in my FRS than I did in my old Ford Explorer. The FRS fits me like a glove.

I was surprised it was smaller than my car and i thought mine had a cramped backseat. I actually like that its smaller though. Kind of has that snug as a glove feeling to it.

The interior is the thing i care least about in a car. In fact, i take half of it out.

I'm 6'3" and 210. The interior fits me great. My previous car was an '06 Accord, and although the interior of this car is/feels much smaller, this car actually has more front seat leg room. I really like the minimalist approach they took with the inside of the car.

Nobody has said it 'cause you're all fanboys; THE INTERIOR IS CHEAP, that's why most people bag on it. You can wax philosophical all you want about how you like the minimalism but the bottom line is that it would have looked cheap 10 years ago, it's got the same buttons that my mother's 8 year old RAV4 has. It's a sports car on a budget, be honest about it. If you dig it, you dig it, I know I do (I have zero interest in the "nicer" BRZ).
That being said, if you go for a test drive and drive like a normal, safe, sane driver, it will feel incredibly boring. The steering has a nice weight and excellent precision, the pedals have very short, responsive travel, the gearbox is tight and precise, and the driving position is good with good forward visibility but some annoying blindspots rearward, but it really isn't anything stunning. I didn't feel like abusing the recommended break in procedure because I know I wouldn't want anyone doing that to the car I'm going to buy. |

I think the best way to describe the interior is spartan. You have what you need and that is it. The stock head unit is a little ghetto looking and sure climate control would have been nice, but, other than that I don't see all of the hype about the interior being crap. The first time that I saw it in person, I was actually pleasantly surprised because I was expecting crap. I guess it depends on what cars you drove before coming to the FR-S.

Other than that, the seats were very comfortable. Driving position seemed good. |

I did my first test drive in the rain and I actually had mine a little sideways during the test drive (I was pretty sure that I was buying it (and I have always found Michelins to lack in wet traction)). Although, I did keep it below 6000 rpm as per my salesman. I definitely enjoy the car more after my break-in period was complete. The test drive was only the tip of the iceberg. Although, you don't have to drive it like you stole it all of the time - every now and then is fun though. |
