I've had it happen on my old car once and not notice it was happening till someone pointed it out, but I don't think I had it in all the way to create back pressure to kick it off, but now I actually watch the nozzle and listen for the tank getting fill. I did have a little overspill once, but not nearly as bad in my old car. Think it was a crappy pump, and it was at a station I've never been to before. But I cleaned it up right away, no damage done. Now I go to the same gas station, hell I even try to get the same pump there too. Call me crazy!

that vid almost looks like some kinda back pressure thing the way it spews out.

This used to happen to me at certain stations on my WRX. So I started listening for when the gas is coming up the neck and just let go instead of letting the pump auto-shutoff. I also ran into problems with fitment at certain stations where the pump fit in at such an angle that the auto-shutoff would trip from the gas bouncing off the wall even though the tank was empty. Pain in the ass.

Kinda like this?...
Yes, that is exactly what is happening whether I use the trigger lock or just hold the trigger myself. Sounds like i need to try a different station.

I just recently started having this problem. In my case, I get a lot of spillage. It actually soaks my whole wheel well area. It only happens at Petro Canada station near my house so far.

that can be quite dangerous. what if when it overflows and you rush over to stop and hit the metal nozzle on another metal surface and create a spark?

I have found this to happen at pretty much any station... Seems like a bad design by Scion/Subaru to me... The only way I can avoid it is to listen... Once I hear the gas starting to fill up the filler tube, I slow down the flow (100% down to 25%-50%) and wait for it to stop automatically. That is the only way that works for me.

I guess I'll just have to learn to pay more attention while filling up. Still, it's frustrating.

I had this same problem. The auto-shutoff kept me from pumping gas. I even spilled out fuel when tank was empty.

I thought it was a clogged vent tube, but the dealer said it was good. Brought the car to the dealership after the holiday and they told me it was a collapsed filler tube.
The part number is SU003-01093
The notes on the service paperwork says "found inner lining of hose to be collapsed causing restriction."

Just wanted to post the info just in case anyone experiences this problem.

I got the car back today, though I haven't tried to pump gas yet.
