The system tries to detect if you are trying to stop in an emergency, and if so, applies full brake pressure. Some study by MB years ago showed most drivers don't actually fully apply the brakes in emergencies so they first developed the system.

Sorry about that. I meant e-brake/hand brake. It's called side brake in Japanese.

I believe that is what this "pedal dance" procedure does (If I understand what I have read in this post, and the linked post correctly) It turns off VSC, TRAC and EBD but leaves on ABS.

FYI, 99% of people will never notice the difference between this method and the standard method of disabling TCS by holding the button for 3 seconds. AutoXing hard on the crummy stock tires I can see EBD kick in every now and again but have never felt it as intrusive or alarming.

I believe Toyota/Subaru took the inspiration from Initial D Arcade Stage 3 code for getting the Bunta car (WRX STi [GC8V])...Nice one!

Getting Bunta's Subaru Impreza WRX (Type R)

At the car selection screen (when purchasing a new card), highlight ''Subaru''. Shift Down, Shift Down, Shift Up, Shift Up, Shift Down, Shift Up, Shift Down, Shift Up, hold down the brakes, and press View change. You should hear the sound of an engine to confirm the code. Select ''Subaru'' and go all the way to the right, to find that Bunta's Impreza has been unlocked.

Or from Contra:

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start

It also flashes the warning lights and takes a while to recover before ya get throttle control back.
