How to disable Traction Control (TC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) Completely

1) warm up the engine fully.
2) turn off the engine.
3) the side brake needs to be released.
4) press and hold the brake and start the engine.
5) while holding the brake, pull the side brake and let go of the brake.
6) press the brake 2 or more times and hold the brake.
7) while holding the brake, release and pull the side brake 2 or more times and hold the side brake.
8) while holding the side brake, press the brake 2 times.
9) TC and VSC lights should turn on.

If you can't turn the TC and VSC back on by pressing the buttons, then it worked. You'll need to turn off the engine to turn TC and VSC back on.

Note: I only tried this on MT. I'm not sure if it works on AT.

It looks like a lot. But if you memorize it, it only takes like 5 secs. Its like brake, brake, side, side, brake, brake. And holding on that button for 3 secs doesn't turn them off 100% completely.

Actually, it is stupid simple. If I can do it anyone can. As you said it doesn't work when the car is cold, must be to temperature. How did you figure this out? How do you know it completely disables everything? Is it putting the car into maintenance mode? :thanks:

bpracer 01-03-2013 12:18 AM

Does it stay off after restarting the car? Otherwise you don't need to do all this for the same result.

Edit-
OK, just saw the post in the racing section where it is explained further driver aids are turned off by this procedure beyond just VSC and launch control. Good to know for track days.

This like putting some cars in launch mode. I guess Toyota/Subaru didn't want everyone to turn it off completely. There would be a lot more cars showing up on the junkyard.

I saw a post on how to do this in a forum for 86 in official Japanese Toyota site. And yes, it's in maintenance mode.

No, it doesn't stay off. You need to do it every time you turn on the car.

I saw a video on you tube they remove the fuse from the fuse box. That is for sure.

you can do it on easy way. only press TS bottom for 5 sec and it disconnected the system

This "pedal dance" method which has been posted here a number of times now actually puts the car into a diagnostic mode. In this mode, it disabled the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and "panic brake" functions as well. So technically holding the TCS button down and the "pedal dance" perform some of the same functions, but they aren't identical.
