This is not a bang for the buck car, for sure. It is the best handling car under...what, $50K (new cars only)?
My BRZ cost just over $30K after taxes and registration. It has the nicer interior, with convenient features like smart key; I think based on everything that it was a bit expensive for what it is. I was willing to make that compromise in value for this car though. A RWD sports car will never have "value" compared to a traditional car purchase and within the RWD sports car sphere, this car will never have the value of other GT sports cars like the Mustang. It IS one of the only RWD coupes under $30K and is certainly the only "lithe" sports car under $30K. What is lost in objective value is gained in subjective experience and subjective value. For instance, would a new WRX be a better purchase? Probably. Does this car make me smile more than any WRX I've ever driven? Yes. |

A car is for driving. This is like asking if a steak dinner is worth the price without considering the "eating experience."

I have to agree here, i know for me (and probably a large number of people on this forum) the driving experience is one of the most important aspects of the car.

Don't put your parents in a bind man, finance one yourself. Get an Altima coupe or a used Prius if need be. Are they paying your tuition and housing ? Don't try to justify it if it's not your money or credit that is getting it off the lot.
As for price, I wish I paid $25k haha. Ever watch Border Wars ? I live in one of those cities and have a good chance of my precious 86 getting jacked. Plus my insurance barely covers an accident with a Mexican National. But..Jeezus Christ, it is so much fun to drive. I smile when I see that red, fanged face in the morning. Way better car than the 370z (which I originally wanted. Nissan wanted my Alti as trade-in. Most dependable car I've met and she's paid off.) |

The "Test Drive" sealed the deal as they say. I traded in my Tacoma TRD 4x4 Sport for this car and LOVE IT!!!! I had an Acura Interga LS when i was 21 and have wanted to get back to a sporty car ever since. This is IT!!!

Considering a corolla is now $19K base price what do you get? even worse interior and more road noise and you really feel the "cheapness" when you drive it. Ya this car is worth the extra $5-6k on top of a corolla.

The FR-S / BRZ are not cheap or a great value IMO. You have to buy one BC you really want that car. |

Just to put a bit of perspective on this discussion. The average purchase price for a car in the US is $31,000. The FR-S is around $6K less.
Considering that the "Driving Experience" was the whole point of this car, from the very moment of inception, excluding it in the judgement of the car's value is just stupid. Especially considering that the amount of R&D put into the car's development to achieve this experience needs to be paid for. Is the FR-S worth $25K? Yes. |
