Great recommendation on the Pentosin. Just swapped over two nights ago and the difference in shifting smoothness is very noticeable especially with ambient temperatures just barely over 30 F.

I've been running Pentosin for about 1500 miles now. It honestly took about 1000 miles for me to really see the complete difference. Shifts are incredibly smoother now. I always felt like this was a bit of jerky car no matter how well I clutched but the Pentosin has changed this completely. I picked up a friend of mine to go to a party and it was her first time in this car; she didn't realize it was a manual till we parked. THAT smooth.

If you haven't yet, do yourself the favor and pick up some Pentosin.

Just changed the trans oil and went for a ride. My transmission was pretty smooth to begin with, but I does seem to shift even smoother now.

I got the Pentosin from O'Reilly Auto Parts, had to go to two of them and ask for it, as it was in the back store room. Not all of them have it in stock.

I believe that has more to do with your ability and her inattentiveness/sensitivity than trans fluid.

Now that temps are falling into the low 30s my gearbox has really started misbehaving. Not shifting into 1st at 4mph, being unable to downshift to 2nd at 25mph without SHOVING it into gear...this gearbox certainly doesn't like low temps, that's for sure.

Check the manual someone posted on this forum, I believe it specs a 75-90 AND 75-85.

Glad it worked out for you! Since we did your car we have done two more and another with the Redline. Everyone noticed a difference.

It was 18 degrees car was outside for 8 hours and car would not go into second for about 3 miles.
However no notchiness in gear selection before and after that. This was the first time the Pentosin did not hide the trans issues.

That's for the rear end. Trans spec is 75W90, but many have found that a thinner fluid works better. Pentosin made a very noticeable improvement in mine.

The main reason to use Pentosin is for colder weather performance. There are not too many complaints about shift feel from those in hot climates. Or at least that I have read.

39 degrees this morning, shifting into 2nd like butter with Pentosin that was put in on Friday. Thanks gmookher for the tip. Shifting issues was my biggest issue with my BRZ. Switching to Pentosin is a very noticeable change under all conditions at least with my transmission.

Check it again, it says the tran and diff gear oils can be 75w-85 and/or 75w-90

I'm looking at page RM-3.
