I know, but it's tempting having Android 4.0 and everything else.

maybe it's just the interface that's throwing me off. I'd love to see if @ritalin 's UI could be ported to this headunit.

A launcher that hides the home/recent/back and status bar?

Yes, the notification bar and buttons can be hidden by a Launcher. (e. g. Launcher Pro, Go Launcher EX)

I dunno, I'm a bit weary about it. Might be a windows CE/android hybrid. That app store picture looks suspect as well.

I could be wrong, who knows. I just don't see why would anyone go through the difficulty of emulating Android when you can just simply run it.

You can run both systems side by side. I mean look at the HTC HD2. That thing can run anything haha.

I should just design and manufacture my own head unit. Dual/Quad core, Capacitive touch, jelly bean.

I know you can run it... Again, don't see much benefit of it when Android offers it all.

On the other hand GO AHEAD and manufacture it. You would have a lot of interest

i'm shocked one of the major players hasn't already done this. Done right it could easily take over the headunit market.

Why would they? I mean they are force feeding the entire market extremely antiquated systems for a premium. That 1500$ kenwood unit? You bet it doesn't run anything over 800MHz soc on Windows CE. They pump out mostly the same hardware every year with a different face and maybe some software enhancements for a premium. The Pioneer X910-940 is a perfect example.

I'm actively pursuing the connections to make this happen. Problem is I'm a software guy and that only goes so far. haha.

Market share. If Pioneer, JVC, Alpine or one of the other major players differentiated themselves by offering a superior product at a similar pricepoint they'd easily be able to corner the market and significantly increase sales.

If you had the choice between a $900 Pioneer running the latest version of android with a capacitive touch screen and a $900 alpine running the same old stuff they've been putting out for years, where is your money going to go?

Yea, but it would cost them more. Their margins would be less, they'd have to hire a new software team (window ce <> Java), new tooling, etc. They are content with offering the same 7 year old tech for today's price.

I get what you're saying and as a consumer I'm with you. But as a business, if I can sell the general public 1 million units @ 80% markup, I'll take that over 2 million units @ 40% markup.
