I never said it would behave the same throughout the range, but it certainly isn't the "wrong" thing to do. If we're talking about what's physically possible, then the range is beyond 7.5 - 9. I should also add that some manufacturers may have different recommendations, Yokohama for instance allows 8 - 9.5 inches for their 245/40 series. |

245/40 works well on a 9" wheel. Many EHP 245 width tires run a little wider than standard 245 tires. It's wide enough to make it look normal on a 9" wheel. Lowering will allow for a lower offset since you get some extra negative camber. Most people are using +35 to +40 with success on stock suspension.

AD08's are bulky for their size if I remember correctly.

That's what i'm nervous about. I'm seeing if my wheel place can loan me a wheel/tyre for a trial fitment. My original plan was to put 225/45/17 AD08's onto my 7.5" wide wheels but my chassis guru states it'll probably move around too much (against my objective of more precise turn-in). So if i'm going to replace the wheels I may as well go the whole hog, hence the 245/40 route!

I am not sure I agree with your chassis guru, and suggest you try the Right tire at the 225/45 size or even consider the Hoosier A6 or R6 in 225/40. Those are darn sticky and will work perfect on your 7.5 width rim the 7.5 width has a weight advantage, as does the 225/40 Hoosier tires if times are your goal, its a 20 lbs tire. My 7.5" HLT rims are 15lbs each. thats a light wheel and tire setup that sticks. most 8-9" rims come in at 17-18lbs, and tires can quickly approach 25-26 lbs, looking at the weight of a ideal 245 tire here Thats 8 lbs more a corner, and 32 lbs total rotating weight. My car will be faster with the skinnier tires, I'm willing to bet. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....artnum=24ZR7A6 |

Flush look, square tires and rims
Hey, I was thinking, I like the look of all flush, but I do not like the look of staggered concave, and I want to be able to rotate my wheels and tires. What do you folks think of putting spacers only in the back, and running a full square setup?
EX: According to fitment chart, Stock height: 18x9, 48 offset perfect flush in front 18x9, 38 offset perfect flush in rear If you would get a square set of 18x9 48 offset and get 10 mm spacers for the rear, would that work, and if so, does anyone have pics of this? I might even want to do this with my stock rims, although going from +48 means that the car would need a 25 mm spacer in the front and a 35 mm (or 25mm and 10mm) spacer in the rear. I am not sure what kind of safety issues may crop up when you get into that range, and I am sure it would start affecting the way the car steers, likely adversely. I welcome any input on this, but please don't start flaming me, I am just looking for information on this. This is the first car I have had that I have really done anything to (put a flowmaster muffler on a car, thats about the extent of my modding experience) so I came here to learn from those who know more than me. I am a very mathmatical person, so if you can explain where I am messed up, or why something won't work in terms of the numbers, all the better!

Your maths is right, and quality built spacers and studs will be fine. Just check your local state vehicle laws, a lot of insurance places won't cover damage if they find illegal spacers fitted.
Without spacers, 9+38 would work with a 1 inch drop and maybe 1.5-2 deg camber in the front.

Its listed on the fitment chart, thats where I got my numbers, does not say it works, but that is where the star is. To start, I mainly would be interested in doing this with stocker rims in the spring when the summer wheels go back on. What do you folks think of flush stockers?
