The only major downfall...coming from a 4G Eclipse myself is the lack of aftermarket availability. It is outrageous how much availability is out there for the FRS and its only been out 6 months. So the option for tuners to really tune the 4G doesnt exist unless the parts are either rare because not made anymore (RIPP supercharger) or custom because it isnt made for the Eclipse yet for instance the AWD guy in Russia. |

My first car was an 06 eclipse gt, It was a fun car and definitely great to learn on. Not to mention the GT pulls out a 0-60 in 6 sec. (I had full bolt ons/brembo brake kit etc)
I then traded it for an s2000 and what a night and day difference. my old eclipse If you go from your auto gs to a manual frs I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed, just make sure you learn how to handle a RWD before doing any spirited driving. |

my EX had a nice eclipse. It was alot of fun to drive, handled pretty good for as heavy as it was.. we had plans for it.. it was just stock but she wanted it to look alot like this
unfortunately something ran out in front of her and it flipped three times She came out of that with a small cut on her big toe, wearing sandals.. but thats it.. i think they are safe cars none the less.. it even drove back to the house even with the rear suspension all jacked up |

I had a 3rd and 4th gen Eclipse, and I have to admit, I loved them. I really enjoyed them, but FWD killed it

Hell, you coulda bought a camaro, or a mustang or a 370z, or a Dart, or a Genesis coupe 2.0t or v6, or hell, i can't think of anything else right now, but that was wayyy too much for the car... not enough quality in the build process...

My mom had an Eclipse GT V6 and I used to work at a Mitsubishi dealership so I drove them a lot. I have a 2G Eclipse GSX (AWD turbo) and I don't like the 4G's nearly as much because they are too big and heavy in my opinion and they can torque steer badly. The FR-S/BRZ will feel more compact with a more natural seating position and will have less roll and give you oversteer to play with. Plus, the twins are more modern with better fuel economy, power (compared to the 4 cyl.), and technology. The way they drive, especially if you go for a manual, will be very different from your Eclipse. So it may be worth it if you're really getting bored of the Eclipse. You'll just have to figure that out on your own though.
BTW, I just realized the OP made this thread in June and hasn't responded since. Oh well, hopefully somebody else with an Eclipse will find this thread helpful. :P

I had a 98 GS-T and a 90 Talon TSi AWD (Basically a GSX). Loved them both, miss them quite a bit. The Talon was a pleasure to drive but spent more time in a flat bed than on the road, and eventually fell to pieces. The GS-T was a looker for sure, but auto transmission kept me from ever really loving it. Fell out with DSMs when the 3rd gens came out.... Just didn't like em. I jumped ship to Scion with a tC and now an FR-S. Always kind of wanted an EVO, but I don't regret my path whatsoever.

What Mitsubishi did to their Eclipse is nothing short of unforgiveable.
The 4G is a complete abomination because Mitsubishi was hemorrhaging cash. For the uninformed, the 4G Eclipse is built on the same platform as the Galant sedan and Endeavour SUV. That explains its excessive weight, bloated styling and crappy handling. It is by no means a tuner friendly vehicle.

I'm not a fan of the Eclipse (to each their own, they can be fast cars), but that is one sexy newer gen. I hate the new gen body style but that kit really rounds it out, looks pretty cool
