Back seats will be made of mostly foam. I removed my old ass Talon backseats and they weighed 15 pounds. New GenCoupe rear seats weight ~5 pounds. Highly doubt they're going to put heavy as hell rear seats in a car that's designed to be lightweight.

However, I'll be removing them regardless of the weight and spraying Rhino Liner in the back, like I did with the Talon. F Back Seats!

i think he was talking about the size and volume that seats would require. all that space has to come from somewhere and it is going to take more materials to cover it up. how much weight did you add with the rhino liner?

Maybe so, but realistically what else would go there? It's not like if it was just a 2 seater there would be an empty weightless void back there, they would still put something their like in my RX. The only objects back there that I consider extras are the physical seats.

I actually used X-Line, but I can't imagine it weighing more than 5-8 pounds. It was a gallon jug and it barely used 1/3 of it. Very, very thin layer. Just to eliminate the shine.

nothing can go there in a 2 seater. just like how there is nothing behind back seats. maybe a gas tank or trunk. perhaps free up some space for suspension components. and if you insist that space be there then maybe some structural components. another thing to mention is that the more seats, the more safety requirements there are. additional air bags and seatbelts and impact safety junk all come at the cost of performance

The difference between nothing, and the back seats in a car this small is just the foam seat padding and seat belts. The "nothing" you're talking about is still a piece of sheet metal. Whether that sheet metal is straight across allowing for more things to fit under them, or contoured down to fit two small asses it's still there. They're not adding 100 pounds worth of removable material to the back of the FRS.

Leather and seatbelts maybe 15 pounds?

I agree with the safety requirements/parts bit. The airbags definitely add weight, but...I won't be removing that. At least not until I see how/where they are.

okay i think we are just coming from two different point of views. any car with the option for backseats was not designed as a two seater. things like the s2k, elise, mr2, miata dont have voids back there. that space should be used to move things inboard reducing polar moment

I'm with Random: Using the last Celicas as a benchmark, I would say that there is the potential to do 2500 lbs. on the FT-86.

Also, I'm with Dave: Much will be forgiven if it is a fatso car but still fun to drive. When the first few 1000RR Honda motorcycles appeared, they were heavier on lbs. and lower on HP than everyone else, but, because of a centralized mass carried low in the frame, they were the easiest to go fast on, i.e., they didn't feel heavy.

I'm also with everyone who said that stuff about coupe weight vs. roadster weight. There is the potential to build lighter coupes than roadsters because, as stated above, the roof of the coupe adds to overall chassis rigidity. That doesn't mean that every coupe version of a car is lighter than the roadster version, but most are.

I'll be shocked if it comes in under 2700 pounds. The FD RX7 was 2822 and they are very similar in size. Improved material counteract the added weight of airbags and safety non-sense.
