well out converter isnt constantly slipping like most autos, it locks up, could be other factors as well too

also wait till you need your first trans service. autos take roughly 9-14 qrtz of synthetic trans fluid. @ 8-15$ a qrt plus the auto trans filter plus labor.

i worked at a shop did an 04 audi S4 auto trans service just changed filter and fluid ...400$ with labor.
That's because that is a European car!!!! Everything for them is overpriced. My RSX automatic cost $80.00 to change the fluids at my Honda mechanic who only fixes Honda/Acura products. His business name is Hond-A-cura techs and he has been fixing them for 22+ years.

Also I have been seeing people complaining about gears grinding in this manual transmission also. If it's not one thing its the other.

Hey guys! Thank you for all of the advice. I will take every post into consideration. I appreciate your concern, suggestions, comments, inquiries, and estimates.

Here's her clutch:

Here's the flywheel:

Here's what a new healthy clutch looks like straight from Japan (ordered through the dealership):

Is the OP racing the car (altho I suspect no one would get an OEM if they were)? I wonder if he is simply complaining to his dealer about the 2nd gear downshift and they're telling him they can try a new clutch. It's overkill but...
what page was this?

Are you SURE baby boy?
Lots of us girls (see my photo) prefer automatics, because dresses don't ride up so much and high heels make manuals more difficult.

See my photo, do you abuse your 'manual' stick much?

Just about every auto since the late 80's has had a lock up torque converter. Lock-up converters are what makes overdrive possible. It just allows the trans to couple the crank to the wheels at an engine speed lower than the torque converter's stall speed.

Is the trolling getting deeper? A couple of days ago you were going to pay $1700 for a clutch job. Now you're dropping your transmission and pulling your clutch and flywheel?

he may be the way i was when i first started driving manual. i ended up burning out the clutch in 1300 miles. i was riding the shit out of the clutch, but didn't realize how badly, or how bad it was for said clutch. that was also 10+ years ago, so i don't remember the cost

yes! "slippage" in the gear box (gears are in a oil bath) hence the name,"slush box"

So don't worry than, there is no problem there, as long as you don't ride/dump it, lol.

If you are nice to the clutch it should last fine, only people who abuse it, wear it out prematurely, and often it's the experienced stick drivers that do the stupid stuff.
this is true!.clutch will last a long, long, time if you
DON'T abuse it. even then,it MAY require you to only replace the "throw-out"
bearing" over time, and high mileage.
