Dealership is charging me $1725 to replace my OEM clutch for BR-Z

Hey guys, the dealership nearest to me is charging me $1725 to replace my OEM clutch and flywheel (as a kit) for BR-Z. Should I pay for it or go somewhere else? They have the replacement OEM clutch from Japan.

FYI: The current clutch right now is completely burnt out.

Any suggestions or advice?

Thanks!

(new subaru br-z owner as of august 2012)

Why are you paying?

Since you've only had the car since August, why are you paying to have the OEM clutch replaced? Seems if anything went wrong the warranty should take care of parts failure at this point?

If you're replacing the clutch, why not just get a better clutch since you've already burnt out the OEM one.

Side note: How did you burn out the clutch already? :iono: I have a beater civic with over 220K miles still on the original clutch

Should be covered, find a better dealer, call sub usa

That seems high. I think it was about $1800 for me to get my clutch replaced on the WRX and they have to take half the car apart to do that. From what I've seen/heard it should be easier to replace the BRZ clutch. Might be worth shopping around.

Also, like others have said, if you already burned up the stock clutch it might be worth getting a better one. I believe Clutchmaster has a kit for the BRZ. I don't know much about clutches though.

I though clutches were considered a wear and tear part so it's not covered by warranty.

It is a wear and tear item, but you really must have been hard on it to burn it out in 4 months! In that case, they're not going to allow it as a warranty item.

Did you just learn to drive manual? Or were you dumping the clutch every run?

How are you already replacing your clutch on a 4 month old car?

How much for this poor BRZ to upgrade it's driver?

Honestly, have someone teach you how to drive a standard. You're riding the clutch. There's no other way to burn the clutch out this soon.... unless you made it to 60k miles already, and even then it's still on the early side.

Wow. I'm looking forward to seeing how well these clutches hold up over time and with forced induction. I remember I had a 92 Prelude back in the day with 280k miles (snapped a timing belt) but still original clutch.

I hope the OP didn't learn to drive stick on that car...

Then again, I learned to drive stick on my old car that already had 159k on it. Don't know if it was the original clutch, but it lasted me 5 1/2 years and 30+k miles and was still fine when I let it go.

He obviously has learned on this car. If he had experience with clutches he'd be quite upset at the OEM one checking out in 4 months.

This guy could possibly be changing his clutch before his first oil change.

this is true! if you partially engage the clutch while '"riding" it,
you WILL burn it up! the only mechanical wear item on the clutch
that would require replacing over time is the 'throw-out" bearing, and even this part should realistically go way over 100,000 miles before giving it up! keep your foot OFF the clutch, and they will last a very long time!..just sayin'

So you are saying you didn't change the timing belt for 280K miles?? :eyebulge::confused0068:
