This is another reason why I hate clutches!!! $1,725? I would be so pissed. I'm glad I know the price of these things with installation now. This has definitely swayed me to the 6A 100% now and all I would need is a 4.7-5.0 final drive and I'm good to go.

Yeah its pricey but if your not an idiot with your car clutched are supposed to last the life of the car. Since this is a track car you should still get like 80k out of it.\

A clutch is ~$400 and you can have the flywheel resurfaced for ~$50. It's a job that can be done in a day in a garage or driveway on a rwd car.

With an auto transmission, problems seem to cost at least $1500 and unless you know your stuff it's not the type of thing you can fix in your garage.

You know I always see people post what you wrote and then I turn around and I hear of people who spend over a 1k to fix a clutch. If the auto goes bad within 60k miles the warranty covers it 100% but since a clutch is a wear item it's not covered. I see that as a win in my book

there is no "win" when you own an automatic.

I think of the auto as a manual tranny without the clutch for this car. It isnt just a PRND tranny.

It actually is a standard torque-converter type auto.

My numbers are real... at least for the cars I've done clutches on. I'm going to assume clutches for this car are going to be in-line pricewise with clutches for similar cars from the same suppliers.

If you have to pay a shop to install it, it's going to be more than my numbers. But you also shouldn't need to replace it until well past 60k miles. For someone to burn out a clutch in a couple of months is very much outside the norm and that's assuming the OP's case is real and not just a troll post. The fact that the warranty does cover wear items and he's claiming they won't cover it (after claiming to have burned it up in a couple of months) kind of points towards troll.

Yeah, probably trolled.

I mean you'd have to be purposely wanting to mess up the transmission to burn it out in that amount of time.

If it is a defect then call different dealers; some might cover it. I've read a couple posts on NASIOC that dealt with this sort of issue.

Private shops, usually charge around half of what the dealer charges. With parts and labor I'd say around 1k.

You should buy whatever transmission you enjoy driving more. Cost shouldn't really be a factor, as a typical clutch (even with some abuse) should last 100k miles and cost $1,000 to replace. That's about what you'd pay for most automatics upfront. No real difference. So pick the one you enjoy more.

Don't sweat it too much, I had similar worries with my first stick a '90 Civic Si, and I had it for 130,000 miles and never had to change the clutch ever...

If you are nice to the clutch it should last fine, only people who abuse it, wear it out prematurely, and often it's the experienced stick drivers that do the stupid stuff.

I'm a lot less gentle than I should be on clutches, and I've still never had one burn out on me. I've changed a few of them because I was in the area (and when you're in the area, you change the clutch preventatively).
