Off topic but that was one of my favourite G W Bush clips, when he said.

"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

There's got to be something wrong with the system when you spend all that time and money and that's the pick of the bunch?
We've had some duffers over here too but none that made me laugh that much!

On topic. I would rather buy from the US than Japan if the product was the same. I hate the way they make excuses to kill whales and secretly slaughter dolphins too. Not happy about the way their attrocities during WW2 have been removed from their classrooms and history either but they do make a good car!
I buy a fair bit on line from the US. Good products and good prices.

My feelings are similar on the first two, but mirror yours exactly re: Chrysler. F*** that nonsense.

If it was an American car would I buy it? Yes and ironically there's only a small chance it'd be manufactured in America anyway.

No... Lol. It's mostly because I know an Anerican company couldn't pull off something like this... And there would be major differences, be it interior fabric, or where they pace certain objects.

I didn't buy this because it's from a Japanesse company, I bought it because I liked it. If this was designed by an American company it would be a bloated car like the Camaro.

As long as it was the exact same as it is now? Probably. But I don't think any American car company has made a boxer engine so...

Didn't someone make one and put it in the back of a 1950's or 60's car?

Like the ATS (the lightest car in its category)?

Yeah, but that was 50 years ago. Hell, I'm not even 50. And I'm pretty sure that's not relevant at all since they don't use them now :P

There are reasons that flat engines are only used in essentially niche vehicles.

Let me guess?
Only niche vehicles need engines that are balanced by design and have a very low centre of gravity?
Those 2 factors are unique to boxer engines.

If it was the EXACT same car built by the EXACT same plant, just rebadged as a Ford, then yeah sure I'd buy it. I drive a Scion -- it's obvious the badge doesn't mean squat to me. Toyota, Scion, Ford, Chevy don't really care, just build me this exact same car.

Now if it was the same design but built by an American manufacturer, I'd hesitate a bit. The Japanese have been leading reliability/initial quality studies for years/decades. Losing that decreases the value of the car to me (although I'd probably still buy it).
