If the BRZ was an American car would you have bought it?
Talking with a coworker and he posed the question, if the BRZ were made by GM, Ford or Chrsyler would you have bought it?
And your answer is? |

sure,
I even considered the saturn/pontiac solstice/sky whatever when it came out, the only thing that killed that was visibility and interior material quality, If the GXP had (the coupe) stuck around long enough and had a less shitty interior I'd be driving one of those... I enjoy import cars because of their content and quality, not because i prefer the country from whence they originated. |

Wouldn't have made a difference. I ordered the car because I like the car, though it would have been an easier decision to order it for me. Keep 100% of the money domestic instead of sending it all to Japan. Even just building it in the US would have made it preferable to me.
If it had been from an american company and they had done the same junk as far as allocations and deliveries for preorders, laying on delay after delay, I would have cancelled just the same as I did for Subaru. |

sure would, my other car is a chevy.
even the new ford focus st seems interesting from the magazine articles so far, not that i would choose it over the brz, but the maker is not the factor. for that matter, never considered a subaru before either, lol. |

No. Only because of the heritage of the cars it was inspired by. I also knew people who worked on the project and the company I worked for had a big hand in it, so THIS car has deeper meaning to me.

Me, my dad and I wouldn't have gotten one it if it was made by an American company. Actually we wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't partially a Toyota. If it was just a Subaru I would still appreciate it for being what it is though!

Not if it was GM. I was actually looking at the Camaro few years ago, until they took the tax payer bailout. Does make you wonder how much more it would cost being made here...

So to answer your question, yes, but I would be a little more nervous about buying American given their track record.

I would not have bought it for reliability concerns......engine torn apart already, cel issue, transmission, clutch and flywheel replaced, going onto my third fuel pump...
Uhhh...but I still love it. Sent from my flux capacitor using Taptalk |

Sure would. I evaluate a car based on what it does or can do, not by who makes it. It's saddening so many people exclude vehicles based solely on who makes them.
Btw, I wish you had a poll in this thread :happy0180:

What's the saying: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
My wife and I started our lives in the suburbs of Detroit and always bought American made cars. It wasn't so much a point of loyalty but rather the fact we didn't know any better. In 1976 We moved to San Diego and once there we joined in on the foreign car parade. We drove foreign cars (mostly Toyota) and really marveled at how great they were. In 1994 we were retired and found ourselves back in the suburbs of Detroit to care for our two mothers who still lived there. Once again in the suburbs of Detroit we thought we would give the Motor City a second chance and bought a 1994 Dodge Intrepid. We were not happy with it's reliability and traded it in on a 1995 Pontiac Grand Am. Not happy with that car we traded it in on a 1996 Chevrolet Astro Van which helped in our move to Tucson. Once in Arizona we traded the Van in on a Toyota 4Runner and again enjoyed the pleasure and reliability of a foreign car. Since then we have bought all Japanese cars except for a 911 that I owned for a few years. We have been happy with each and every purchase. To answer the question: regrettably I would not have bought either of the Twins if they were made by an American manufacturer. If made in America by a foreign manufacturer, that would have been o.k. |
