My bad, I was at work and was typing fast. But the point is moot.

philosophically, it's a hard question to answer.

I'm inclined to say no mainly because I don't think America could design and develop this exact car. Not in the same way. The car is too Japanese.

But I would have no problem buying American. I would love to get an F-150 for a truck.
Or a Fusion or Cruze as a dd sedan.

If it had been from an american company and they had done the same junk as far as allocations and deliveries for preorders, laying on delay after delay, I would have cancelled just the same as I did for Subaru.
I don't think you understand...for instance: the Corolla is more Made in America than the Camaro. Camaro = assembled Canadian, Corolla = assembled in Indiana.

It is an exotic, just like the Viper.

I understand the anger over the bailout. I was not then, and am not now a supporter of it. But it is, as they say, what it is. The government, and by extension the American people, own a big chunk of GM. Why on earth would we wish it to fail, thereby ensuring a loss of huge sums of money?

Why do we not wish it success, so that we might recoup the full amount - or better still, profit?

I don't want them to fail, just stand on their own two feet.

If you fail, you will fix it and come back stronger, the problem is we don't seem to allow failure anymore.(I believe Richard Branson said something along that line about us Americans) At the same time my tax dollars were spent bailing out the unions - where I work we lost employees, 20% of our income, my commission checks, and matching 401k. I really was not in the mood to have to help these folks at that time.(and 3 of my relatives that work for GM and hear about how much they make at every family get-together - lol)I still own couple of GM cars, but when these are gone I will never buy one again. But that's just me, I believe I have supported them enough already - to each their own.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you won't ever consider owning another GM product, isn't that the same thing?

Is it GM's fault they were bailed out? Seems to me the anger should be levelled at the people that did the bailing out. If I'm the management of a failing company, I'll take money wherever I can get it. I can be angry at GM management for running the company into the ground, but I don't see how one can fault them for taking the money.

Be angry at the politicians.

If it were the exact same car and American in badge only, of course I'd buy it...I buy the car for the quality I want and its design philosophy.

If it were an american "sports car" a la Solstice/Sky...no way I'd buy it. I bought a 4th gen V6 Camaro, and while it handled very decently once modified (best handling Camaro generation there is - the new gen Camaros are a step backwards with a more accessible but forwards placed motor and 3900+lb mass) the interior was just plain awful, the design of components was completely stupid (stock power steering pump was guaranteed to FAIL if you used it as a sports car on track, there were three different type of fasteners used for the front dampers[metric/torx/english], and the so fun spark plug change out - give me a subaru anytime!), and weighed 3200lbs with an interior that looked like this:

I'd buy an affordable American sports car that was actually a true sports car in a heart beat if one was ever made... but America has yet to make one. A used corvette C6 comes closest, but its not affordable for me, I like as light a car as possible, and the interior design still makes me cringe.

If there was no FR-S/BRZ I'd probably be in an NC MX-5 right now... but I don't like convertibles.

Lol, past the point of no return now. Plus it really was a win-win situation for them(unions) and the man in the house now, little back scratching really pays off for both of them. (trying not to get political here, but I think I'm getting in deeper). Just trying to explain why I would not, sorry.

Can I just change my answer to just "No" I would not buy?

I have to answer "maybe"

If it was a Ford I'd probably consider it.
If it was GM I'd consider it but I would be leaning to No.
If it was Chrysler the answer is NO F$%' N way.

That's true. If it was designed entirely in the US, there is a high chance it won't look and perform well. America runs off Nascar while the rest of the world runs off F1.

I didn't buy it but I am a huge fan. If it was made by Chevy and had the exact same looks and specs I still would have considered buying it. It is a great car. The manufacturer is secondary to me when weighed with the intent of the design.
