Thanks. How is the reception with it on your dash?

Just installed mine as well. Everything works great! Huge thanks to everyone on here, for all the tips and instructions.

My seat bolt was a piece of cake to remove. I'm not sure if mine was just looser than yours, or if it was due to my 4' breaker bar used for leverage. Hardest part was routing it under the carpet.

Thanks again everyone!!

By the way...
What a complete rip-off for their so-called "fit kit". My other vehicles have Pioneer Avics installed. You buy the receiver for less than $100 and it comes with the antenna. I can't believe they get $170 for the receiver and $100 for an antenna.

Absolutely nuts, but I can't live with my XM!

Now that I'm done ranting, I can enjoy XM radio in my new ride

ROFL @ the 4' breaker bar - that SHOULD have made it easy! Glad to see everyone is having success, even if it is at an admittedly high price.

Shocked to see someone having good success with the antenna mounted under glass though. I'm happy it works for you, but I had a dash-mounted antenna in an old Nissan pickup, and one port-installed with the antenna on the dash in my Tundra, both of which dropped signal like it was hot. Had to have the antenna moved from the dash to above the passenger side A-pillar on the Tundra, and that solved all signal problems. The dealer did it under warranty, and said it was a common issue with the Tundras. Again, glad it works for you. Maybe different thickness of glass, or maybe the steeper rake of the FR-S windshield? Don't know, don't care - it works for you, and that's all that matters!

Unfortunately, the antenna mounted on my dash isn't working out too well. It seemed fine initially...but is very very spotty the more I drive around. I really wished I could keep it on the dash, but it's driving me insane.

So, this weekend I plan to relocate my antenna...onto the roof.

I agree - on the dash would be my preferred location too, and no hassle getting it under the window seal. I guess the extra hassle is worth it though to get solid reception. We just went on a longish road-trip over the weekend in the FR-S, and it only dropped once or twice going under interstate overpasses, but that is to be expected.

The only thing I would add is that XM seems to pick up best when the antenna is as horizontally oriented as possible. I had issues with my 4Runner dropping signal some, but the antenna was mounted over the front passenger door which cocked it to the side quite a bit. Got it moved to over the tailgate exactly centered, and much more horizontal, and the reception is rock solid - I don't remember it dropping at all any more, now that I think about it.

Hope your antenna relocation goes smoothly.

Sorry dude - unless you can hack lots of signal drops, sounds like it may be the only way...

That's a possibility too - just have to manage the cable flex so it is not too sharp a bend, and not so loose it hangs and gets snagged every time you put something in the trunk.

Thought about on a rear fender too, but that just looked weird, and I think putting it on a fender would put it in the way so it would get hit by accident and end up scratching up the paint.

Doesn't the satellite antenna magnetically use the metal you attach it to outside to essentially boost the reception? Could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that was why it works best stuck to the exterior.

Yes the metal does, hence why I placed a thin metal piece under the magnet on the dash, I too struggled with reception and chose the metal. Why roof, just attach to decklid?

I went to Bestbuy today to look at options. I have a Sirius unit i took out of my Toyota Tacoma that also has the home dock. For a new car kit and install on the dash with the antenna inside, i was looking at $200. My head unit was about $250 3 years ago and it a nice unit but i was not happy to have it attached to my dash.

The tech said that Pioneer might make a XM kit for the HU but i have not gotten a call back as of yet. If i do, i will post my findings here.

Just wanted to intorduce myself to the group!! I ahve had my FR-S for about 2 weeks!!! Love it!!
