For the less mathematically inclined, that's 1105$ BEFORE shipping, without assembly and choosing a double din screen so there's minimal fiberglassing necessary. Then YOU need to install everything, make sure it works, and get all the drivers and software working together. I also didn't account for hooking up a rear camera, which you'd need to buy even MORE stuff for.

Do you understand what a higher voltage pre out does? http://www.glasswolf.net/papers/preouts.html

Now compare your measley 1V to a 5V.

Wifi Tether from your phone is your friend. Free, unlimited 4G. What exactly do you need to surf "properly"? Is there something that I am missing from the whole enter-web-address-see-the-page concept?

Windows 8? I bet its super customizable right? Different launchers and the such? Awesome!!! [/Sarcasm]

Or how about navigating somewhere while on the phone? Does your phone still spout off instructions while you're on a call? Or does it even play music while you're on a call? How about if your passenger is watching a video, or surfing the web, while you're on a call?

Again, I don't understand why you can't comprehend this. It's a CAR STEREO. Find me a CAR STEREO with this capability... for less than 600 bux... and isn't an ebay special. My God man, do you realize the difference?

Your entire purpose in this thread is to keep people from buying a product that would work just fine for them, while being competitive in the market it's geared toward? I'm sorry, but that's a bit of a TROLL move.

The fact is, carPC's aren't cheaper, aren't better for implementation within a car, and ultimately require a ton of attention and effort just to keep up. If you want to put the time, money, and effort in, great! I did.... and now I'm contemplating taking it out and tossing one of these in.

I'm happy you love your carpc. But please, move on.
So why is your non "eBay special" "$600" radio on here in the $200 segment? special shipping?

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/595786525/Two_Din_Universal_Android_Car_DVD.html

Also, thank you for comparing a 64 bit / dual core / 3.1 Ghz / 32nm / with support for 32GB DDR3-1333 to an A8 at 1Ghz and complaining about the cost, next you should compare it to the Z80 in a Ti83 to show how powerful it is! And I'm sure the Android radio has a 120GB SSD running at SATAIII speeds, also thank you for including 14.2 surround sound I never thought that you could spend twice as much money on a radio then I did on my full case water cooled gaming rig, but hey, at least you can run all of the latest FPS on that tiny pc at 800x480 so I guess its not a total loss, sure beats angry birds at $600.

Also also, you seemed to get confused about parts of the amplifier, the RCA lines are boosted, same thing you can do with a $10 pre-amp at the output of any headphone jack, not that you would notice that with the 14.2 channels...

Well that would be a little hard since my carputer was in my Dodge Magnum I had before the BRZ, and the carputer was actually replaced with a Samsung Galaxy Tab install, sadly I haven't time yet to get the Galaxy Tab in the BRZ yet, or my stereo system, it's all sitting in my closet.

Late to respond to this post and I know, but if you are involved in CyanogenMod in any way then .

@ProTekk I sent a PM to you about some Android development!

Back IT: I don't car whether is Android, Win8, iOS or whatever, the important thing it that it responds to the necessity I wrote in the previous post.

About the tablet in-dash: what are the main limitaions? A Kindle Fire or similar stuff is quite cheap in comparison. Do you need to fit an amp I imagine, so the price grows quite a bit...

With any tablet, you will need to add an amp and most likely a receiver. Also, you'll need to find a way to turn it on when the key is turned on and charged while the car is running.

Needs more Jellybean or root/CM10

Would rather figure out how to make a Nexus 7 work and then I could enjoy quad-core tegra 3 goodness, and keep it updated as new ROM's are released.

I'd feel weird having to use Froyo again, it looks and feels archaic.

Yup, or alternatively and what I had done in my last car is to make the tablet easily removable so then I could just get into the car, pull it out of my purse and pop it into the dock I molded into the dash and go, and using this awesome app called Tasker I was actually able to set it so when I docked it it automatically unlocked the tablet, switched to my music player app and un-paused the music.

Tasker is awesome. I use it to read my text messages to me whenever it senses headphones. Awesome when someone is following you when you're on a bike!

Oh, that's pretty cool, I wonder if I could set it to do the same when bluetooth is connected, I mean the BRZ's headunit at least will read texts, but only when it's connected properly which is maybe half the time tops, most of the time it will stream audio and voice calls, but doesn't stream track info, have media control, or read texts which is annoying. Right now I don't even use Tasker sadly since getting the BRZ, the only thing I ever used it for my was tablet in my old car.

I believe bluetooth connection is something it can monitor.

2forme, Great write up. It's unfortunate that you had to spend so much time feeding a troll. Keep up the great information, a lot of us are very interested.

I'm totally down to get into a group buy if we could get the price to sub-$400.
