Agreed why would you want to risk putting an inferior coolant in when it lasts basically the life of the vehicle, i love my car but doubt i have it in 11 years.

You can drain and go back and forth without issue.
This guy is exactly right. Your long life antifreezes have removed silicates from the system to make it better for long term use in aluminum radiators without ill effects.

There are some differences though, and that comes in the form of rust inhibitors. Different brands can use sodiums, or organic compounds to prevent rust. Mixing different rust inhibitors can shorten the life of the antifreeze.

Until SAE standardizes colors we are all going to be confused. But don't worry about it. Just keep in mind when you service to flush and run whatever color you want. I wouldn't recommend the conventional green though.

Blue brake fluid is silicon based. You won't find it in any factory cars... perhaps bikes, but not cars.

Silicon based fluids are DOT 5, but most race series won't allow the use of it in ABS equipped cars (some tracks won't allow it at all), because you cannot determine the age of the fluid by looking at it. They recommend DOT 5.1 instead. Same temp ratings but glycol based.

Correct, there are colored fluids that are still glycol based instead of silicone. But there are many tracks that won't pass the car for tech inspection if the fluid isn't clear. This helps them determine the age of the fluid. Street car class is more lenient, and not all tracks are nazis. :happy0180:

But typically silicone based fluids are colored blue or purple.

BMW has used Blue coolant and brake fluid for a lonnnnnnnggggg time.

the blue coolant in the BMWs well for older bmws is a must because head problems with green shit or any other color not approved. grab someone's old 94 325 pull the head off if they used green coolant you'll see some nasty corroded grossness its not nice looking ill tell you that. (worked at a BMW performance shop for a year or 2)

The answer is no. The new Subaru blue coolant pre mixed and not needing water to be added does not require the Subaru additive.

They do?? In the dealership I work in we use pink in all the late model stuff & read in older models. Blue is specifically for the 86 only. JDM/NZ part number is 08889-01203. The service schedule says to replace it at 150,000 km or 10 years then every 75,000 km/5yrs after that. I doubt anyone has hit 150K yet?
