you're gonna have to tear apart the block to replace the piston rings you fried. Ringland issues have been prominent in Subaru's. Usually #4.

If I recall correctly, the ringlands in this engine are a wee bit beefier. But my money's on the rods/ringlands.

but what do we know, subaru may have built this thing strong as hell knowing that they failed with the sti's stock block on later models and knowing the aftermarket world was going to turbo the poop out of the car.
Not having any experience with this.. would it be fair to say there would be much less chance of this happening to a ...say...AVO stage 1 turbo which would minimize booste to about 50 or 70 hp? (I believe that was at 5 psi)
thanks.

Crawford's bandsaw'd piston:

Looks considerably more beefy than the EJ pistons.

Headgaskets? seems to be the most likely failure point (as designed to be)

Idk why I keep clicking thanks instead of quote today. Lol

Anyway, could be true. Though Subaru rods are usually pretty solid. Either way I think Full Blown will be the ones to give us the answer in due time. 500+ HP. Damn....

thanks.
as soon as you add a turbo kit, you're putting that motor under new stress and your pistons rings are sure to blow way faster than a factory motor.

but we haven't seen anything blow yet.

I believe on NASIOC Crawford mentioned the ring lands were almost twice the diameter of the EJ257 ones.

The key to all of that is tuning and staying away from detonation, it's what kills EJ257 ring lands, not necessarily boost pressure. All this high HP builds are making power on E85, it will be interesting to see how much reliable power folks get on 91/93 and how long the motors last.

I'm going to say rods or bearings, maybe head gasket. I'm hoping not rods because that can cause fairly catastrophic damage depending on what happens.

I'm going to say head studs will stretch somewhere approaching 500wtq, lifting the heads, and blowing the gaskets.
